The Sad Tale of the Brothers Grossbart
The Sad Tale of the Brothers Grossbart | Jesse Bullington
6 posts | 10 read | 12 to read
Hegel and Manfried Grossbart may not consider themselves bad men - but death still stalks them through the dark woods of medieval Europe. The year is 1364, and the brothers Grossbart have embarked on a nave quest for fortune. Descended from a long line of graverobbers, they are determined to follow their family's footsteps to the fabled crypts of Gyptland. To get there, they will have to brave dangerous and unknown lands and keep company with all manner of desperate travelers-merchants, priests, and scoundrels alike. For theirs is a world both familiar and distant; a world of living saints and livelier demons, of monsters and madmen. The Brothers Grossbart are about to discover that all legends have their truths, and worse fates than death await those who would take the red road of villainy.

Share covers you love, no explanations. This allows for viewers to speculate about my psyche and personality, I suppose. Any theories about why I seem drawn to trompe l'œil images of skulls? 😄💀💀💀

Aimeesue FYI, I've always loved the cover to Cher's Heart of Stone album, too. 😂 http://www.optical-illusionist.com/illusions/cher-heart-of-stone-illusion 5y

The #siblings in The Sad Tale of the Brothers Grossbart are as despicable as it gets. Grave robbers who will happily murder any and everyone who make their lives even slightly inconvenient. Along the way they make enemies of farmers, witches, kings, and demons, looking out for each other and a quick couple of coins. #aprilbookshowers

With only a hundred pages left, I just couldn't bring myself to care about any of the characters or what was going on- my TBR pile is too big to waste any more time not enjoying this one!

Kirstin Yup. I ended up finishing but I didn't care. Vulgar and boring. Yawn 8y

A friend of mine lent me this book last spring. I read it right away. It has the distinction of being the most disgusting book I have ever read. I don't know how to return it. 😖😖😵 #somethingborrowed #booktober

tricours What made it disgusting? 8y
Seshat The book description sounds intriguing. The most disgusting book I ever read was Geek Love. I started it with trepidation but ended up loving it. 8y
Kirstin @tricours Very graphic descriptions of very gross things. Lol 8y

Kirstin @Seshat There was one scene in this book that made me so nauseous I had to put it down. I am not squeamish at all. 8y
Seshat Oh, my, @Kristin, maybe I'll rethink putting it in my YBR 8y
Seshat In my TBR, I mean. 8y
tricours It sounds interesting though! 8y
TorieStorieS I started reading this today, as it's been in my shelves for a while and it seemed like a good choice for Halloween! 8y

#favbookishsiblings. Did I get that hashtag right? I usually don't (may edit it right, though). Anyway, this was my first Jesse Bullington. And it's right-now gone from my shelf. Forever, I think. But I'll get it again. His next two are even cooler. And, he's also Alex Marshall. Amazing writer. Knows fantasy inside out, and back around again.

BookishFeminist You got the hashtag 👌🏼 8y
