n this pulse-pounding short thriller for fans of Big Little Lies and The Last Mrs. Parrish, Maggie Cabot refuses to sit by idly as police re-open an investigation into the mysterious death of a woman her husband used to know.
After two decades in a near-perfect marriage, Maggie and James Cabot are enjoying their first year as empty-nesters in their charming Florida suburb, until two detectives arrive at their front door and change their lives forever.
The remains of a young woman have been found at a campsite in the Florida Keys. Hannah Nilsson, only 21 at the time of her disappearance, was last seen on a camping trip with a group of friends—including James, who dated Hannah long before he and Maggie ever met. Shocked and heartbroken, everyone on the trip said they assumed Hannah had wandered off toward shore, intoxicated from a long night of partying, and drowned. But the discovery of her body 25 years later, half a mile away from the campsite and buried six feet deep, makes it clear that her death was not accidental.
As the police dig back into the case, Maggie begins her own investigation, desperate to piece together the truth and clear her husband’s name once and for all.

A suspenseful short story. Maggie Cabot is a devoted wife to her husband of twenty years. She is navigating her daily life as an empty nester since their daughter recently went off to college when the police show up on her doorstep. Her husband, James, is wanted for questioning when the body of his long ago girlfriend is discovered. 🏕️

Ugh. I get SO sick of the insecure wife trope. Main character was literally jealous of a dead woman, and upset that she was the center of attention during her own murder investigation. I just can‘t.

DGRachel It‘s like the drunk/alcoholic female unreliable narrator in thrillers for me. I hate it. So much. 3y

This book was just ok, nothing to brag about and It got me through part of my work day. If you're into mystery it will be kind of easy to figure out.

I generally don't enjoy reading short stories but I'm finding (thanks to audible plus!) I do like to listen to them. This was good. I liked the MC and enjoyed the way she uncovered the details from the past. I'm quite conflicted about that ending but I'm meant to be so I'd say this was well done.

Since this murder mystery audiobook was pretty short, I stayed interested throughout. The ending wasn't earth shattering but I didn't guess what it would be right away.

This was # 22 on my #bookspinbingo card. I need to get serious about reading to actually get a bingo. I haven't even read the bookspin picks yet. 🤷‍♀️

This is the length mystery I like - short! 😂 A scattering of suspects and a twist. Over like a beautiful girl‘s life.

Five people go on a camping trip. One, a model on the edge of making it big, doesn‘t come back. Twenty years later, a wife tries to exonerate her husband of the murder.

4⭐️ to this great #audibleoriginal, deftly narrated by my favorite, Therese Plummer.

ElaineR Slight aside but if you're into murder mysteries there's a fab podcast on audible called "West Cork". It's only a handful of episodes but I still can't get it out of my head. It was out a few years ago but I was rather late to the party. Been recommending it to anyone who'll listen. 5y
Megabooks @ElaineR thanks! I love audiobooks, so I‘ll look into it. 😁 5y
Snikt6 I liked the shortness as well. 🤣. But the very last few minutes? 🤷🏼‍♂️ 5y
Megabooks @Snikt6 definitely odd 🥂 😂😂 5y

Not the best thing I‘ve listened to lately, but the narration was good, the premise intriguing, it kept me listening for a quick 2 1/2-ish hours, & it was free, so I give it a pick. I guessed some of it but it kept me entertained & I was interested enough in the outcome that I was compelled to finish it up tonight rather than wait for next week‘s #audiosouping. 😉I would try more from this author & the narrator, Therese Plummer.

#Audiosouping to my 2nd Audible Original pick, a mystery. About 30% in & so far it‘s not bad. The narration is good & I‘m interested in how it will unfold. Today‘s soup is Mark Bittman‘s Mushroom Barley (before the broth is added). Pretty simple but I am adding a few touches of my own & it smells really good cooking. Finished soup pics coming later.🍲📚❤️

I didn't buy in to the premise from the start. This was a murder mystery told through the eyes of the irritating Maggie, a housewife living a "perfect life" until a 25 year-old missing person case involving her "perfect" husband comes back to light. Most of the rest of the book involves Maggie in the role of tenacious detective. Next time let‘s leave the investigation in the hands of professionals.

ljuliel You get the award for funniest review of the day. 😁 5y
