Down To The Sea In Ships
Down To The Sea In Ships: Of Ageless Oceans and Modern Men | Horatio Clare
5 posts | 2 read | 2 to read
Our lives depend on shipping but it is a world which is largely hidden from us. In every lonely corner of every sea, through every night, every day, and every imaginable weather, tiny crews of seafarers work the giant ships which keep landed life afloat. These ordinary men live extraordinary lives, subject to dangers and difficulties we can only imagine, from hurricanes and pirates to years of confinement in hazardous, if not hellish, environments. Horatio Clare joins two container ships on their epic voyages across the globe and experiences unforgettable journeys. As the ships cross seas of history and incident, seafarers unfold the stories of their lives, and a beautiful and terrifying portrait of the oceans and their human subjects emerges.

Since family is so competitive I felt this quote fit today. My granddaughter is turning 2 in August and she says words and often just blurts something to a stranger at random times but I have a mother-in-law that feels she should be going to Yale by now 🙄 I have taken psychology course on the growth of children I think (hope) I know what I‘m doing.

Leftcoastzen I think kids have been overbooked and micro managed too much these days .Free play time encourages creativity. 6y

Reggie This was great. The comedienne, Tig Notaro, shares a story about her and her stepfather on this very thing and it is powerful and had me blubbering like a baby. Anyways, check it out and nice post. 6y
Ddzmini @Reggie I will thank you 😋 6y

The cover is pretty and the writing is much the same, or I guess that's the intent. It is a very quiet, contemplative book, so if you like that sort of thing this might work better for you than it did for me.

The cover blurbs could be describing the cover itself as much as the content of the book. Gorgeous! Cover illustration (c) Pietari Posti.
