The characters in this series are unique and lovely. This mystery was confounding between the financial and mechanical aspects. It was a bit much. However, the intrigue and adventure carried it along.#cloakanddagger22

Love this series and the latest entry was as satisfying as the last. Enjoyed that Charlotte‘s close circle is expanding and that each addition strengthens the storyline. Watching Sheffield mature over time and Wrexford soften a bit has also been well portrayed. Ready for the next installment!

I love this series so much, and this installment does not disappoint. Friends of Sloane and Wexford appear guilty of murder and they must walk the fine line of finding out the truth while still trusting their friends. At the same time they must deal with their deepening feelings for each other and how best to protect their rest of their found family.

This series is moving up fast on my favorites list. I love the characters, both the MCs and the supporting characters who add so much to these stories. This is a complicated plot, but not so much that you can‘t follow it. It kept me guessing until near the end. Some plot elements are based real people/events. Highly recommend. Picture has nothing to do with the book, but a heron that i saw on my walk.

4.5/5 stars

Another good installment of one of my favorite historical mystery series!

All of the secondary characters are brought in for this mystery as one of their own is implicated for a possible murder and fraud. There isn't as much "action" as in previous adventures, but the growth/change in some of the characters makes up for that loss. These characters continue to connect/unite as a family rather than simply random acquaintances, and ⬇️

robinb it gives this series a more in-depth feeling overall.

There are some twists here along the way, and the ending involves a big transition in the story arc overall.

I enjoy Ms. Penrose's writing style, her flawed yet stalwart cast, her attention to period detail and her interesting/relevant events of the time period. ⬇️
