#SongsOfSummer Day 7: When #SchoolsOut, it is time to play outside. Fats‘ review: “This delightful picture, full of Mo Willems‘ wit and charm as usual, reminds us of a time when we used to play in the rain with our friends, or a time when we find the good in something we thought was awful. Besides, life is too short to be spent worrying and moping around. We should all learn to loosen up and have some fun!” Full review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-4St

This picture book is F that won an Geisel award in 2009 and the teaching strategies that I would use with this book would be a RA and a S. I would do those strategies because this book is very short, the pictures are beautiful, I know that the students would love it. This book is about Gerald the elephant and his best friend piggie are going
to play outside. It starts to rain and piggie is upset then they realize that they can also play

MichelleL In the rain. Gerald is the greatest friend for coming up a solution to having fun while it's still raining. A great website for this is http://study.com/academy/lesson/are-you-ready-to-play-outside-lesson-plan.html. This is a great book that helps beginning readers and the website and activities complies to the Florida standards ESOL 15 and UDL 3.1 by asking them what do they know what it starts to rain and what do they do on a rainy day. cheyennewilliams While I have not yet read this particular story, I love this series! Elephant and Piggie books make for great RA for younger students and GR & IR for beginning readers. My favorite book in the series is My Friend is Sad. (edited) 6y

Are You Ready to Play Outside?, by Mo Willems, is about Elephant and Piggie. Just as they are about to play, it starts to rain, running Piggie‘s mood. Elephant, trying to stay positive, encourages Piggie to see the of weather as a fun thing. This book could be great when dealing with students that may have trouble adapting to new things, or students that overall need a more positive attitude! UDL includes: 1.3, 3.2, 3.3, 6.2, 8.3.

Klewis81 ESOL includes: 2, 10, 15 6y
Klewis81 Attached is a lesson plan that could be used in class to see what kind of activities the students could do when it‘s raining versus when it‘s not: http://study.com/academy/lesson/are-you-ready-to-play-outside-lesson-plan.html 6y
DrSpalding What better than books that can help teach how important it is to have a positive attitude. Expand on strategies. 6y
supan.katherine Such a cute read! Love how you found a lesson plan that include activities that could be used for when it‘s raining out and when it‘s not. Definitely useful for those ugly weather days as well as the great ones. Great post! 6y

It's rained here all week, partly because it's the rainy season and partly because of Hermine (which reminds me of reading Harry Potter and trying to figure out how to pronounce Hermione before Rowling realized everyone was thinking "her-me-own," and added Viktor Krum's character as a graceful way to phonetically spell it out for us), and we're all a little stir crazy around here. Good thing there's books!

SaraFair Hermine here today in NC. Hope she doesn't stall, but glad for the reading and the college football! 8y

Gerald and Piggie finally get outside and then it rains. Piggie learns that with a friend any weather can be fun.
