Golden Kite Award winner for Picture Book Illustrations, Balloons over Broadway, written and illustrated by Melissa Sweet is a NF great for a RA. Everyone knows and loves the Macy‘s Thanksgiving Day Parade, I watch it every year. This book tells an amazing story about a puppeteer, Tony Sarg, and his experiences on helium balloons for this parade.

Robert Munsch‘s “Up, Up, Down” illustrated by Michael Martchenko is a funny fiction book perfect for a RA. Anna loves to climb EVERYTHING. But every time she climbs up high, her parents always tell her to be careful. At the end, Anna decides to climb a very tall tree. To the point where her parents tried climbing to get her down, but couldn‘t do so. Read to find out what lesson her parents had at the end.

“I Am Helen Keller” by Brad Meltzer and illustrated by Chris Eliopoulos is a B that‘s great for IR. This picture book is an easy read for a student that will educate them on Helen Kellers youth on how she dealt with being deaf.

Instead Robert Munsch decided to switch it up and have the Princess save the Prince from the dragon. But the ending is also a twist as well. Read to find out what happened when the Princess saves the Prince!

Dbenford I just finished reading this book and I've got to say, she is one feisty princess and I like it! Girl power! This book is great for showing the young girls in our classrooms, that they don't need a prince to rescue them! We can rescue ourselves 😊 nice job😊☺ (edited) 6y

The Caldecott winner, Don‘t Let The Pigeon Drive The Bus, written and illustrated by Mo Williems, is a hilarious F picture book that would be great for SR. A very convincing pigeon begs to drive the bus while the bus driver goes away. But will you let him drive the bus? This book teaches the kids and allows them to decide whats right and wrong.

The Caldecott winner “The Man Who Walked Between The Towers” written and illustrated by Mordecai Gerstein is a NF picture book great for GR. A daring young man, Philippe Petit, one day decided to walk a tight rope between the towers of the World Trade Center. This book captures an amazing memory of the towers.

Todd Parr‘s “It‘s Okay to Make Mistakes” is a fiction picture book that would be perfect for IR. It teaches kids to embrace their differences, to be thankful for everything, and of course that making mistakes is okay.

Cora always gets stuck doing the little kids job in the kitchen when it comes to cooking. But one day her siblings went out for the day and got the opportunity to cook a traditional filipino dish, pancit, with her mother.

The Parents Choice Gold Award “Love You Forver” by Robert Munsch and illustrated by Sheila McGraw will have everyone‘s hearts. This heartfelt NF picture book would be perfect for RA. It tells a story of a loving and growing relationship between a mother and her son. Sadly written after Munsch and his wife had two stillborn babies.

#1 New York Times Best Seller “Wonder” by R.J. Palacio is an amazing RF perfect for PR. August “Auggie,” who was born with a facial deformity is starting the fifth grade. And having been homeschooled all throughout his life, it was definitely a challenging experience. I think it would be a great book to inspire kids to make a difference in the world.

The Good Reads Choice award, Boy + Bot by Ame Dyckman and illustrated by Dan Yaccarino is a cute SF picture book that would be perfect for RT.

supan.katherine Boy + Bot are really good friends who have a lot in common when it comes to having fun. But as soon as Bot gets switched off, Boy thought he was sick and cared for him just like any other human. And as soon Boy fell asleep, Bot thought he was malfunctioning. I definitely recommend giving this book a read to find out the ending! 7y

Being misunderstood at home, Max traveled to the land of where the wild things are. Where he became king. Although being King felt great to Max, he felt like something was just missing and decided to travel back to his room. Read this amazing picture book to find out just what that missing thing was.

supan.katherine This is story about Shorty and his family, as well as other Japanese Americans, were sent to internment camps while the U.S. was at war with Japan. Times were very difficult at the camps, so Shorty and his father decided to create a baseball field and league to uplift the environment of the camp. With always being picked on for being the smallest on the team, Shorty became discouraged. But he never allowed that to stop him from continung. 7y

This picture book is great for students learning their alpahabet and great in choral reading for students to build their fluency skills and motivation. It also contains simple words and illustrations that aids the students when reading.

cheyennewilliams Great book choice! It's a creative and fun way to introduce young students to the alphabet. The developmentally appropriate activities you included were very useful for young students, specifically kindergarteners. They are simple enough that the children shouldn't have any issues completing the assignment but they are also complex enough to challenge students and test their understanding of the alphabet. Underneath My Bed List Poems by Brian P. Cleary and illustrated by Richard Watson is a great P RA picture book. Richard Watson wrote excellent poems that showed how list poems could vary in form. This book contains funny poems that would keep the students entertained yet learn how list poems could either rhyme or not rhyme.

The New York Times Best Seller, The Kissing Hand, by Audrey Penn and illustrated by Ruth E. Harper and Nancy M. Leak is the perfect MF for a RA. The Kissing Hand is about a little boy who is a raccoon that refuses to go to the first day of school. But then his mom teaches him a little secret that would help him get through the first day. I feel that this book would be great to help with students first day of school jitters.

JanaLL I am very familiar with this book, as my second grader is not one to want to leave me in the beginning of the school year. This is the perfect read aloud for the first days if school hands down 7y
JordanD I was recently gifted this book and I agree it would be great first day read to help with any homesick kids! I tried the link though and it took me to a bunch of quotes about kindergarten. El Deafo | Cece Bell

The 2015 Newbery Honor, El Deafo, by Cece Bell is an autobiography that would be perfect for LC. Cece was intimidated enough to have to wear phonic ears around her neck, but having to go to an entirely new school with them? She sure felt different. In the graphic novel, El Deafo, Cece learns that having phonic ears aren‘t so bad. But also comes across obstacles where she wish they didn‘t exist at all, such as finding a true friend.
