I‘ve been smashing through audio books on Kindle and it makes me have a little moment of happiness to see just how many I‘ve listened to/read since January. 50 down, 50+ to go!

🎧 Thought provoking. A complex HOT topic for sure. A multiracial British author. 200 page book. Basically we‘re all unique & yet the same. The answer isn‘t in DNA but in Culture. Prejudices are a natural part of the human condition. Racism is a social construct. Blame those in power. Real human variation does not correspond to the traditional & colloquial descriptions of race. Ignore the genetic pseudoscience that‘s in support of “race”. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Yes - this book explores debunking racist myths from a scientific POV, courtesy of Adam Rutherford who is a geneticist. It's an interesting way of looking at a social issue and provides further arguments against racism.
No - the author is not black (he's Indo-Guyanese) and therefore he should not be saying the n word, but he does. He's referencing historical terms and terms used in the media but that does not give him a free pass to do so.

Have read one (The New Jim Crow), but have bought all these over the year. Pretty sure I've stacked some more as well.

Slightly misleading title, rather than about arguing this is a fantastic book debunking racist pseudoscience claims about genetics, by a proper academic geneticist. He‘s a personable but authoritative narrator calmly explaining why myths like ‘slavery made black people strong and fast but not intellectual‘ have no basis in real science. He analyses white suprematist comments on their own websites and I learned so much. Highly recommend.
Race is real because we perceive it. Racism is real because we enact it. Neither race nor racism has foundations in science. It is our duty to contest the warping of scientific research, especially if it is being used to justify prejudice. If you are a racist, then you are asking for a fight. But science is my ally, not yours and your fight is not just with me, but with reality.
First talk today "How to argue with a racist" by Adam Rutherford. #HayFestival
