Think Like a Rocket Scientist
Think Like a Rocket Scientist: Simple Strategies You Can Use to Make Giant Leaps in Work and Life | Ozan Varol
9 posts | 4 read | 10 to read
Named a "must read" by Susan Cain, "endlessly fascinating" by Daniel Pink, and "bursting with practical insights" by Adam Grant. A former rocket scientist reveals the habits, ideas, and strategies that will empower you to turn the seemingly impossible into the possible. Rocket science is often celebrated as the ultimate triumph of technology. But it's not. Rather, it's the apex of a certain thought process -- a way to imagine the unimaginable and solve the unsolvable. It's the same thought process that enabled Neil Armstrong to take his giant leap for mankind, that allows spacecraft to travel millions of miles through outer space and land on a precise spot, and that brings us closer to colonizing other planets. Fortunately, you don't have to be a rocket scientist to think like one. In this accessible and practical book, Ozan Varol reveals nine simple strategies from rocket science that you can use to make your own giant leaps in work and life -- whether it's landing your dream job, accelerating your business, learning a new skill, or creating the next breakthrough product. Today, thinking like a rocket scientist is a necessity. We all encounter complex and unfamiliar problems in our lives. Those who can tackle these problems -- without clear guidelines and with the clock ticking -- enjoy an extraordinary advantage. Think Like a Rocket Scientist will inspire you to take your own moonshot and enable you to achieve liftoff.

1. Not often

2. Not sure if the tagged counts as self-help exactly but I did learn a lot.

3. I think it depends on the book and what you expect to get out of it.

BookmarkTavern That‘s a really good point on three. Thank you for posting! 3y

I liked the parts that talked about actual rocket science and team problem solving more than about individual heads of companies, particularly worker-unfriendly companies such as Amazon and Tesla. This is likely a personal view more than the book‘s fault, so your mileage may vary.

“The journey cannot end once the mission is accomplished.”
So many ideas wrapped in excellent writing. A free workbook download does a great job of summarizing and activating too.

When it comes to creating long-lasting change, there are no hacks or silver bullets. You‘ll need to use a lot of lead bullets instead.

I finished Think Like A Rocket Scientist a few days ago but forgot to review it.

I found myself underlining, starring, & notating so much! Varol provides realistic strategies & advice on how to reframe your thinking to obtain different outcomes. He uses examples from numerous industries, not just rocket science.

One of the best nonfiction help books I‘ve ever read. This will definitely be a book I go back to.

And my first Aug #bookspin bingo!

i.besteph Amazing work! Also your well on your way to another one. Keep going! 🤗🥳 4y

“When we prefer the seeming stability of stories to the messy reality of uncertainty, facts become dispensable and misinformation thrives. Fake news is not a modern phenomenon.”

Only 26 pages in and already underlining and take notes.

#Ispy a book with a light blue cover that @julesG tasked me to find.

And #Ispy a book with a purple cover that @IamIamIam tasked me to find.

Now I challenge @SumisBooks @LibrarianRyan @Klou @RachelO @Crazeedi (and anyone else who wants to play) to find a book with an orange cover.

IamIamIam Awesome! Thanks for playing! 4y
julesG Very interesting book in light blue. I'll stack it. As for Anna *sigh*, it was a struggle. 4y
Klou Thanks for the tag, I have just done one of these but I'll gladly do it again! 4y
wanderinglynn @julesG I haven‘t read Anna K yet. I keep putting it off. 4y
julesG I've yet to find a novel by one of the Russian classics that I like. It's mainly the style in which those novels are written that I can't stand. Next in line are books by Scandinavian authors, I even struggled with some of Astrid Lindgren's books. 4y
