Unfortunately I have to admit I can‘t cook all that wel and my boyfriend pretty much does it for the both of us 😬 I love autumnal food when I didn‘t make it though! He does a lot of cosy pastas which I love for autumn.

It is tiring to be a woman who loves to eat in a society where hunger is something not to be satisfied but controlled. Where a long history of female hunger is associated with shame and madness. The body must be punished for every misstep; for every "indulgence" the balance of control must be restored. To enjoy food as a young woman, to opt out every day from the guilt expected of me, is a radical act, of love.
pickA really beautiful calming book finished up in a Christmas Eve bath. I loved this slim and simple tour through Shanghai food, mainly different types of dumplings but some other foods too. The writing was comforting and sweetly aesthetic and it made me desperate to travel to Shanghai and try the dumplings.
After a very (very very) difficult week I‘m pleased to say that I‘m done with work for Christmas, my grandad‘s funeral yesterday went as well as it possibly could have done in the circumstances and it was nice to see some family for the first time in two years, my boyfriend is recovered from covid and out of isolation, and I‘ve got a chicken mustard tray bake in the oven with some reading and Netflix surfing with my mum planned for this evening.
Retail therapy round two. I fell in love with this book when I saw the cover on someone else‘s goodreads and the cover was so beautiful I almost didn‘t care what it was about! How pretty is this??
pickA memorable small book from the small Emma Press, available at Amazon etc. Moving through the year with different Chinese food for each season, almost every page is crammed with pan-fried dumplings, sticky rice dumplings, pineapple buns and many many more. It made me hungry and envious! As strong a theme is family and memories of home, and what home means as you grow up and make a life on your own.
I‘ve already given Tiny Moons to two people.😊
