“The Great Big Bear had a great big bed.“

I would read this in my classroom is we were going through a unit of fables, folktales, and traditional literature. I would also do a call and response type read aloud, so the students can take part in reading the book with me, as they know the storyline.

Pickpick

The Three Bears (2000) by Paul Galdone is about the tale of Goldilocks and the three bears. In this playful story, the illustrations give the book an old time feel of folktale stories and fireside chats. Through the pictures, there are colorful yet peaceful hues that create that warm environment for the book.

Pickpick

The book is descriptive and the pictures make use of the white space in ways that also tells the story, but without words.
The book follows a young girl named Goldilocks who goes into a strangers house and starts using their things. The moral of the story is don't take what doesn't belong to you.
My favorite quote is “No one knows what happened to Goldilocks after that, as for the Three Bears, they never saw her again.“ because it adds mystery.

The video for my first virtual Storytime went up today!

It‘s probably best for kids who‘re at least preschool/kindergarten-age. There‘s a lot of chatter upfront as I introduce myself (& my coworker!) & share some fun bear facts.

If you just want to hear me read a fairytale, you can start it at the 11-minute mark. 😉🐻📚✨

Meaw_catlady I love your picture choice!!!! 👏👏👏 5y
monalyisha @Meaw_catlady Me too! An illustrator friend said this particular photo came off as a tad “aggressive,” so I used a different one for the promo. But it‘s my favorite. 😉 5y
Hooked_on_books Yeah, you kind of look like you‘re yelling here. 😂 5y
monalyisha @Hooked_on_books I mean, Goldilocks is kind of a jerk. 😆 5y

I filmed my first Virtual Storytime in my backyard today. It was a little awkward. 😅 So strange doing it without the kids as an engaged audience. And my neighbor thought it‘d be a good time to cut down a tree. Cool, cool. Not to mention all the fiddly bits about copyright law, which I got around by using a combination of non-fiction & fairytales, doing my own thing in terms of words & storytelling, & not showing every page. Woof! Brave new world!

Chelsea.Poole I love your set-up! 5y

LibrarianToujours You might find this info about digital story time helpful. Good luck and great job! https://programminglibrarian.org/articles/online-story-time-coronavirus-it%E2%80... 5y
monalyisha Thanks @NHLibrarian! I‘ve been following all of the developments, but my library‘s decided to air our videos on the local cable access channel, & I think they‘ll be archived. Womp womp. So, I‘m going to stick with this workaround (especially since I no longer have access to our collection to grab different books)! So tricky. 5y
LibrarianToujours @monalyisha That‘s pretty cool actually! Everything right now is tricky, but everyone seems to be doing the best they can with what they‘ve got and it‘s awesome to see. 5y
