Finally fished this one from the #tbrpile ☕📚
So may thoughts about this book. Its set in a fantasy world but is more of a coming of age story. The fantasy world created is just so beautiful, the characters are relatable and pure but its the writing that makes this a wonderful wonderful book!!!
Its best read under a cozy blanket and a cup of hot chocolate, you will have a smile on your face the entire time!!!
This is such an intelligently written book, I am in complete awe. It uses real characters and actions to illustrate profound meaning to life. For eg, it has a character called the Keeper of the Hours whose job is to maintain a clock tower, and Cartwright uses it to symbolise time lost and time recovered.
MIND BLOWING!!!
The pic is another example of how beautiful the writing is!!!
The story starts with our protagonist being born. She was born to a whore [sic] in a whorehouse [sic] and was raised in secret so as not to scare the customers away. Although Marea is the daughter of a prostitute she gets a proper education, which eventually leads her to leave her home seeking adventure.
All in all, a good debut novel, but nothing outstanding - except for the cover, the cover drew me in.
