Gentle and Lowly
Gentle and Lowly: The Heart of Christ for Sinners and Sufferers | Dane C. Ortlund
13 posts | 13 read | 1 reading | 3 to read
I have read no book that more carefully, thoroughly, and tenderly displays Christs heart. Paul David Tripp, President, Paul Tripp Ministries; author, New Morning Mercies and My Heart Cries Out Christians know what Jesus Christ has donebut who is he? What is his deepest heart for his people, weary and faltering on their journey toward heaven? Jesus said he is gentle and lowly in heart. This book reflects on these words, opening up a neglected yet central truth about who he is for sinners and sufferers today.

Even more lovely the second time reading through. When I read it in May, I read it in a day at the airport; it's definitely meant to be digested more slowly. Much of what Ortlund says about Christ's love is shocking - but only because it's not widely discussed in churches, not because it's new. Day-to-day life looks so different living in light of that kind of love.

This is such an encouraging read and a reminder of God's love for us.
Matthew 11:28 -30 KJV
Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
One of the best books about Jesus I have ever read. Highly recommend. Ortlund majestically weaves Biblical text with exerpts from Puritan theologians to paint such a beautiful of the heart of God.

Such a great book that describes the heart of Jesus toward sinners and sufferers. It was refreshing to think about the love God shows for His children through the work of Jesus. When we know the love of God personally then we live differently as we live in his love. I naturally tend toward thinking God is similar to my abusive father but nothing about that is true. God loves us without reserve. He is not withholding His love. Instead He is love.
