An electromagnetic pulse flashes across the sky, destroying every electronic device, wiping out every computerized system, and killing billions. When it happens, Alex was hiking in the woods to say good-bye to her dead parents and her personal demons. Now desperate to find out what happened after the pulse crushes her to the ground, Alex meets up with Toma young soldierand Ellie, a girl whose grandfather was killed by the EMP. For this improvised family and the others who are spared, it's now a question of who can be trusted and who is no longer human. Author Ilsa J. Bick crafts a terrifying and thrilling novel about a world that could be ours at any moment, where those left standing must learn what it means not just to survive, but to live amidst the devastation.

Firstly I am a sucker for dystopian post-apocalyptic fiction, add in “zombies”, survival mode and people returning to their basic natures...I am sold! The real beauty of this book is how the survivors react to the end of civilization.. makes you wonder what type of person are you really.. would you help a stranger in need or is everyone out for themselves? Definitely will be finishing this trilogy.

Bailedbailed

Okay I'm bailing on this one. I realize in the event of a zombie apocalypse animals will probably get hurt. I also accept that there are some instances in books particularly horror where animals might die/get hurt. I'm usually able to skip over those parts while I'm reading but when faced with two full chapters of dog on human/human on dog/dog on dog and zombie on dog violence it's just too much and I'm checking out.

My new years feast just for me!!! With the last of my toblerone for dessert. I took a break from reading to quilt a bit so I probably won't finish this book for 2017.

TricksyTails OHMYGAWD I love vintage CorningWare! Is it weird how excited I just got? 😂 2y
danibolahood @TricksyTails lol I had no idea it was vintage. I brought home leftovers from my mom's and it some how seemed to move into my cupboards permanently 2y
danibolahood @TricksyTails also not weird at all. You should see how excited I get when I see cheese 2y
TricksyTails Keep it!! 😂 That stuff is nearly indestructible. They don't make those anymore. 2y
TricksyTails Hahahaha well, cheese I understand! 2y

All the grown up stuff is done!!! No more groceries/laundry or cleaning for the rest of the year!!!!!! I'm hoping to spend the rest of the day trying to squeeze one more book in for 2017.

@CocoReads

CocoReads Excellent! I‘m making tacos for dinner but otherwise spending the rest of the night reading. And shivering because it‘s so cold. Lol 2y
danibolahood @CocoReads I feel your pain! Feels like - 30 with the windchill here and the crappy seal on my balcony door is creating a... refreshing breeze through my kitchen. 2y

Good dystopian read, though it was a little hard to get into. Really left a lasting impact, though. Would recommend.

I definitely recommend this book for those post apocalyptic YA readers out there. Finally a plot where it's not sugar coated or with a main protagonist that acts like a love sick moon calf!! The cliffhanger ending might be a turn off to some but I'm rushing to the library to get the second book!

#ScaryBookCover for #AllHallowsRead...this one creeps me out big time. The novel is just so-so, but the cover at least reminds me of the scary bits. 😄

Battling a head cold. Tea and a couple of new books may not cure me, but they'll get me through this afternoon.

I really enjoyed this book right from the first pages. The protagonist is a bit different then you may expect from a post apocalyptic tale. Book 1 of a trilogy, but enjoyable on its own.
