Lionheart
Lionheart: A rip-roaring epic novel of one of historys greatest warriors by the Sunday Times bestselling author | Ben Kane
5 posts | 3 read | 4 to read
REBEL. LEADER. BROTHER. KING. 1179. Henry II is King of England, Wales, Ireland, Normandy, Brittany and Aquitaine. The House of Plantagenet reigns supreme. But there is unrest in Henry's house. Not for the first time, his family talks of rebellion. Ferdia - an Irish nobleman taken captive during the conquest of his homeland - saves the life of Richard, the king's son. In reward for his bravery, he is made squire to Richard, who is already a renowned warrior. Crossing the English Channel, the two are plunged into a campaign to crush rebels in Aquitaine. The bloody battles and gruelling sieges which followed would earn Richard the legendary name of Lionheart. But Richard's older brother, Henry, is infuriated by his sibling's newfound fame. Soon it becomes clear that the biggest threat to Richard's life may not be rebel or French armies, but his own family... 'A rip-roaring epic, filled with arrows and spattered with blood. Gird yourself with mail when you start.' Paul Finch 'Ben's deeply authoritative depiction of the time is delivered in a deft manner.' Simon Scarrow

As with all Ben Kane books this is Avery good read, and you feel as you really get to know the main people of the time. This book takes you up to the time that Richard is crowned as kick and portrays his battles with his father. I look forward to continuing the story in books 2 and 3 of the trilogy.

Kicking off the #FabulousFebruary Readathon with some historical fiction with the first of the Richard the Lionheart trilogy. I hope it‘s as good as his Forgotten Legion Trilogy.

Good read 👍🏻 I didn‘t become as emotionally attached to characters as I sometimes do- perhaps because I know what happens to them now 😁
But well written, historically accurate and I look forward to the sequel next year.

Caroline2 Whey! Glad to hear it was good. I might wait and read Penman‘s version first tho! 😉 4y
TrishB @Caroline2 no one beats Penman for me, but I was glad to find one that didn‘t annoy me, wasn‘t cheesy and was accurate! 4y

Easy to read, very detailed with historical bits. A buoyant, boisterous and vigorous adventure, a story well told promising even more excitement in the sequels. Recommended.
