A Meditation on Murder
A Meditation on Murder | Robert Thorogood
10 posts | 5 read | 5 to read
Aslan Kennedy has an idyllic life: Leader of a Spiritual Retreat for wealthy holidaymakers on one of the Caribbean's most unspoilt islands, Saint Marie. Until he's murdered, that is. The case seems open and shut: when Aslan was killed he was inside a locked room with only five other people, one of whom has already confessed to the murder. Detective Inspector Richard Poole is hot, bothered, and fed up with talking to witnesses who'd rather discuss his 'aura' than their whereabouts at the time of the murder. But he also knows that the facts of the case don't quite stack up. In fact, he's convinced that the person who's just confessed to the murder is the one person who couldn't have done it.

Good. Enjoyed the story. Found it hard to follow at first because I am used to seeing Death in Paradise on the television and had to think back to the characters in the 1st series. Perfect for fans of the series, which will love reconnecting with the characters from the 1st series.

@BookishMarginalia I'm just starting this one, but I'm already loving it. I've missed DI Poole. ❤ I'm so glad I saw your posts about these books.

BookishMarginalia I enjoyed all 3 of them — hearing DI Poole‘s thoughts is the best! 3y

#CurrentlyListening to another #DeathinParadise #cozymystery — so fun! #PhilFox is an excellent narrator — he brings the books to life.

Traci1 Is this the same as Death in Paradise the show? 3y
BookishMarginalia @Traci1 Yes! With DI Poole as main character. 3y
Traci1 @BookishMarginalia ooh, he's my favorite. I just ordered all 3 books for my kindle. Now I'm wanting to go back and rewatch the show. 😁 3y
BookishMarginalia @Traci1 Mine too! I‘ve watched the whole series twice already. 3y

#3Books #ThatMadeMeLaugh, although I think one of them wasn‘t supposed to - but those terrible sex scenes!!!🤣🤣

Re-read Hitchhiker‘s last month, it still makes me laugh, while A Meditation on Murder is based on the original series of Death In Paradise, with repressed Englishman Richard Poole as the central character, which always appeals to my #SenseOfHumor (Humour!!) @Eggs

I love the programme “Death in Paradise”, just discovered there is a book series. That‘s my weekend sorted.

The (fictional) island of St Marie must be the worst place to go on #holiday, it seems to have an incredibly high murder rate; though thankfully they are always solved by fish-out-of-water British detective, which was originally Richard Poole (played by the wonderful Ben Miller), in the series TV Death In Paradise.

jb72 Right?!? I‘m like someone is always dying on that little tiny island. Have you watched the show? 4y
Cinfhen I don‘t watch much TV but this series seems charming 4y
TheEllieMo @jb72 it‘s one of the few things on TV I do watch! Though I‘ve not been keen on the last couple of series, I‘m not keen on Ardal O‘Hanlon‘s character. 4y

jb72 @TheEllieMo I couldn‘t believe what happened to his character!! 4y
TheEllieMo @Cinfhen It‘s the only series I have ever watched every single episode of! 4y
Birdsong28 The author Robert Thorogood has written some books with the original characters. 4y
xicanti I figure small British communities are the most dangerous places on earth. Going by crime dramas and cozy mysteries, they seem to have upwards of fifty murders a year, each, even though only about twenty people actually live there full time. 4y

1. I‘m between books! Just finished Andrea Camilleri‘s Game of Mirrors (an Inspector Montalbano novel) and will start Eight Mountains by Paolo Cognetti soon.

2. I had to look through Goodreads to find the answer to this! The last vaguely green book I read was the tagged book, based on the TV series Death In Paradise, which I was a huge fan of until the last series. I read it back in 2017!

3. We have an abundance of bluebells.

suzisteffen Montalbano!! We went to a town in Sicily that had a plaque on a church to commemorate the filming of the early ones there. I need to read some of the books - I have enjoyed the TV series (at least the first several seasons). 5y
TheEllieMo @suzisteffen it‘s the first Montalbano book I‘ve read, and it‘s quite a late one in the series. Now I absolutely have to start reading the whole series from the beginning! (edited) 5y
