A coming of age novel that I was really looking forward to reading. Nine girls navigate their hopes and dreams against a backdrop of a scandal at the boarding school. The girls discover their voices and their power. The story shifted perspectives several times and the intriguing start had me hooked. But I started to get lost halfway, forgot the characters names and wanted to give up. I persevered til the end but forgettable.
⚠️TW: sexual assault, rape, drug use
This one has been on my shelf for awhile & I kept shuffling it to the bottom of the pile based on low ratings on Goodreads.
Each chapter is told from the perspective of a different student at an all girls boarding school. The viewpoints are knit together through a sexual assault allegation that affects each girl uniquely.
The title of the novel is exactly the point. Societal standards affect All Girls.
This is what it is to love a place. You have to want it to be better 📚👩🎓🏫
This debut novel will make for a great starting point for a lively discussion amongst readers! Over the course of the 2015-16 school year at- per the title- an all-girls boarding school in a small CT town, this book reveals a year dominated by sexual violence. Told in vignettes across the four years & broken into significant events for the school year, the lack of central characters may frustrate some- there are lots of plot points left hanging!
