Cecelia and Cassius are polar opposites. The Lord Chief Justice has risen from his obscure beginnings and he has his eyes on greater glory. Rooting out the evil that plagues London is his own personal mission - and he won't be swayed by a woman he finds irresistible. The closer they are drawn together, the greater the fire between them. The Chief Lord Justice may have a cold exterior, but underneath it all he is nothing but ragged purple flames.
While lacking the humor of a Tessa Dare novel, which I prefer, there‘s no denying that Byrne knows how to write a love story. No matter how her H/h are thrown together, no matter how damaged they are, she brings them to their HEA in a way that is completely believable. The prologue here is heartbreaking, but not quite as devastating as that in the first book of this series. Content warnings for child abuse in the prologue wouldn‘t be amiss.
It is like Cecelia is two completely different people one a shy poor introverted spinster and the other the wealthy owner and operates of this gaming hell that he was to close down proving it is corrupt and immoral. Now he had not figured out that it is the same woman. What will he do when he finds out is Cecelia? Will he believe this deception is another untruthful woman just like his mother? Is it the final betrayal? Read and find out
Cassius Gerard Ramsay, Lord Chief Justice of the High Court. Has a low opinion of women due to his abusive mother who ruined men. He was fine until he met Cecelia a woman who was making him break all his vows to himself and arouses him like no other.
If you like your romances filled with smoldering attraction and a high angst factor then this book definitely delivers! What would have really tipped this book into the love and adore category for me would have been to have all three Red Rogues play larger roles. Although the camaraderie was there, I wanted more of them working together. Overall though, it was a truly entertaining historical romance that was a well written and satisfying story!
My first historical romance from this author, and I really enjoyed it! Cecelia and Ramsay both suffered childhood abuse, but while Cecelia took that darkness and turned it into light and strength, Ramsay became a hard, distrustful man until he met her. 🔥🔥 I enjoyed Byrne‘s writing style, and her characters really came alive for me. Will definitely read more from her. 4.25/5⭐️

Finished Blue-eyed Devil. Decided I better get back to my ARCs. I'm a bit behind on those. 😬 So I'm starting this historical by Kerrigan Byrne.
