From the author of A Field Guide to Getting Lost comes a heartwarming story about new beginnings, burgeoning friendships, and finding your flock. Callie cant wait for her new life to start. After a major friendship breakup in San Diego, moving overseas to Scotland gives her the perfect chance to reinvent herself. On top of that, shes going to live in a real-life castle! But as romantic as life in a castle sounds, the reality is a little less comfortable: its run-down, freezing, and crawling with critters. Plus, starting off on the wrong foot with the gardeners granddaughter doesnt help her nerves about making new friends. So she comes up with the perfect solution: shell be homeschooled. Her parents agree, on one condition: she has to participate in a social activity. Inspired by a journal that she finds hidden in her bedroom, Callie decides to join a birding club. Sure, it sounds unusual, but at least its not sports or performing. But when she clashes with the club leader, she risks losing a set of friends all over again. Will she ever be able to find her flock and make this strange new place feel like home?

A couple of fun little library finds on my walk this morning! Tagged looks like a lovely middle grade read. And I loved A Judgement in Stone so much that I had to grab the Rendell.

AmyG Rendell is the best! 1y

Enjoying a cozy Sunday with some #MiddleGrade titles. It's snowy here in Detroit, at last! Hope everyone is keeping warm and enjoying some down time. #KidLit #CurrentlyReading

JamieArc Rosetown looks lovely. I heard that we here in Lansing are going to get a lot of snow Wednesday. Today it‘s just a pretty flurry that‘s not sticking. 2y
mcctrish Both of these look lovely. We‘ve got snow in London, ON for the first time since December 22 which lasted until Boxing Day. 2y

Callie is ready for a fresh start when her family moves to Scotland, and she convinces her parents to let her be homeschooled. They agree if she joins a social activity, so she joins a twitching, or birdwatching, club that meets at the local library. At the same time she finds and reads the childhood journal of the woman that previously lived in the castle and starts making a few friends. This was a delightful #MiddleGrade read!

I‘m currently all caught up on Middlemarch, so it‘s time for a new middle grade book with lunch. It begins with Callie‘s family moving from California to Scotland when they inherit a castle.

Launching March 2021, this MG story about a young girl & her family who move to Scotland & take up residence in a castle is a delightful story about friendship, discovery, & birding. Initially excited about the move, Callie soon finds that excitement warring with a growing sense of dislocation. With the help of some new friends & the discovery of a mysterious journal, Callie fully embraces her new home. An enjoyable read.

JanuarieTimewalker13 Does MG mean multigenerational? 4y
TNbookworm What a great cover! 4y
TracyReadsBooks @JanuarieTimewalker13 In this case it means middle grade, specifically grades 5 and up for this book. 4y

Rainy day today which is perfect for catching up on chores and doing some reading. I‘m starting the morning with the tagged book—a MG book out March 2021 about a family who moves from San Diego to Scotland where the daughter joins a birding club—and will then probably move on to The Vanishing Half. Some friends I decided we need to relaunch our book club as an online endeavor and it‘s our first pick. 🌧 📖 ☕️ 🌧
