"Winterbourne Hall is not safe. Clare and Dorran scramble to secure the ancient building in an effort to protect themselves from the ravenous hollow ones, but that isn't their only concern. Somewhere far away, Beth is alive, but she's trapped, and her oxygen is running out. Hundreds of kilometers separate Clare from her sister. The land between them is infested with monsters, and the roads are a maze of dead ends. She knows she can't survive the trip by herself. But even with Dorran at her side, can she truly hope to face the winter stillness...and make it to her desperate sister before it's too late?"--

I really don't know how to review the rest in this series without spoiling the first book . . .

I read this one last summer the same week as the first one! I was so excited for the series that we drove 45 minutes to Barnes and Noble for me to buy the rest of the series.

I'll just say that this one is just as good as the first. There were a few places I felt the story dragged but not for long and really not enough to hurt the story at all.

I enjoyed @Avanders ‘s selection for #Round13 #GroupW of #LMPBC so much I went ahead and ordered the next in the series. #bookmail

carlthecattt It‘s a really good series! 2y
Avanders Yay I‘m so happy I picked a decent one this time! 😂😅🤭 Just remembering 2y
MaleficentBookDragon @Avanders 😹 I had blocked that one from my mind. Though I do have a pretty bad track record of picks myself. 2y

Avanders @MaleficentBookDragon 😂 so bad… It never bothers me if I didn‘t like a book, though… I‘m just happy to have read it 😁 2y
MaleficentBookDragon @carlthecattt @Avanders It‘s very visual and I‘d love to see it as a 🎥, especially the creature work for Dorran‘s mom and the maids. 2y
Avanders @MaleficentBookDragon ooooooh me too!! 2y
carlthecattt @MaleficentBookDragon it would make a great movie! I have a visual of them in my head and it‘s creepy. This was my favorite book pick so far from this round. 2y
MaleficentBookDragon @Avanders me too; except for An Apple for Zoe. That book made me so mad that I actually paid for it and read it. It is the worst book I‘ve ever read., and that includes Ethan Frome. 🤬 2y
Avanders @MaleficentBookDragon 😂😂 I get that too — being mad to have “supported” a bad book 😏 2y
MaleficentBookDragon @carlthecattt I agree, hands down the best book this round. I am a Coates fan. My favorite one of hers (so far) is a short one- 2y
carlthecattt @MaleficentBookDragon oh that looks good! Just added it to my TBR. 2y

Mehso-so

I am really trying to get into this book. It is part two but every time I read a romantic interaction between two people who haven‘t known each other over a fortnight angers me. I get it-end of the world brings people together in life and death but they do not know each other. I start to get into the surviving strife and then someone tucks a hair behind an ear, or a forehead kiss occurs. Wtf.

I received the first book as an #lmpbc pick and I have to say when I read the back I was like oh I won‘t enjoy this. But then I read it and had to read the rest of the series.
It was a great read and I gave most of the books a 4/5 star rating. The ending to each one was a little too unbelievable, but still good.
I now wake up terrified if somebody comes in my room, I think I see creatures that aren‘t there, and I‘m afraid of scratching noises.

Avanders You got through those so quickly!! Now I have to go check more of the series out 😁😁 2y
carlthecattt @Avanders I was hooked! Definitely not a genre I typically go for, but am so glad I read them. They‘re spooky enough to still haunt me weeks after finishing them. 2y
Avanders So cool — I sometimes wish I had all the time in the world to read (siiiiiiigh 😜) 2y

Book 19 in October themed reads is this gem. Book two on the black winter series. The hallows (creepy zombies) are making things even worse for Dorran and Clare. They have left the safety of Winterbourne Hall to help save her sister Beth. The start was a little slow but quickly picked up momentum and in the end was an utter page turner.

I‘m breezing through this series! The beginning was a little boring but it quickly picked up momentum. So many suspenseful moments and the majority had my heart in my throat. I‘ve yet to read something I didn‘t like from Darcy.

Zombies and monsters..Well, this is an incredibly tense and atmospheric thrill of a heart pounding read. It keeps you on tenterhooks as you wonder just what‘s round the next corner for Clare and Dorran. Just brilliant.
