I Would Leave Me If I Could.
I Would Leave Me If I Could.: A Collection of Poetry | Halsey
18 posts | 9 read | 6 to read
Grammy Awardnominated, platinum-selling musician Halsey is heralded as one of the most compelling voices of her generation. In I Would Leave Me If I Could, she reveals never-before-seen poetry of longing, love, and the nuances of bipolar disorder. In this debut collection, Halsey bares her soul. Bringing the same artistry found in her lyrics, Halseys poems delve into the highs and lows of doomed relationships, family ties, sexuality, and mental illness. More hand grenades than confessions, these autobiographical poems explore and dismantle conventional notions of what it means to be a feminist in search of power. Masterful as it is raw, passionate, and profound, I Would Leave Me If I Could signals the arrival of an essential voice. Book cover painting, American Woman, by the author.

I didn‘t love these. Some were good, but it just wasn‘t my favorite thing to read 🤷🏻‍♀️

Reviewing collections of poetry is always tricky to me because some resonate more with me than the others. Do the ones that I don't vibe with drag down the rating despite them being perfectly fine poems?

Overall, I liked I Would Leave Me If I Could. I knew Halsey was a strong woman, but I didn't know half of what she went through to get there. She bares her soul in these poems to give us a glimpse of her origin story.

One book to go! #MountTBR

This got a bit forced in the middle but Halsey was overall really fantastic to read and conjures up some really fantastic images in your head. Yeah at some point I wasn‘t sure how I felt about it and I genuinely did not like the middle too much. This should be read slowly, but I also can‘t wait to listen to the audiobook which will be fantastic!

I‘m not sure what I feel about this book. On the one hand, it‘s Halsey and there is a certain kind of poetry in how she sings and how she writes. I feel like at times it‘s slightly too forced or maybe just not to my taste, but there are things that are also incredibly vivid and hurt.

I hope everyone here can recognise these from somewhere else. I literally sang this in my head.

PICK PICK PICK! This blew my socks off! Halsey is a fantastic writer. Major trigger warnings though. She is brutally honest about many subjects. I hope to see more from her. I could definitely she some of these being songs by her.

TrishB Brought this for my daughter for Christmas! Happy to know it‘s good 😁 4y

As much as I love her music, I didn‘t connect to these poems. This is may be because the poems followed her growing up homeless and a bit of a drug user with how it affected her bipolar disorder. (None that I have any experience with) She has a lot going against her, but the point she made that she wanted to write poems is clear. She does have a great way with words

Rehesina I feel the same way. I like some of her poems, but as a whole I don‘t know if I‘m really impressed. I want to like this a lot more than I currently do. 4y

I love Halsey. I love Ashley. She comes across as this young woman who is headstrong and brash, yet when she lets her walls down, as she has been with her last album, she shows how relatable and down to earth she really is. I am so happy to support her anyway I can. Including this collection of poems she wrote up about her life
