Ten Things I Hate About the Duke
Ten Things I Hate About the Duke: A Difficult Dukes Novel | Loretta Chase
9 posts | 12 read | 1 to read
USA Today bestselling author Loretta Chase continues her Difficult Dukes series with this delightful spin on Shakespeare's classic, The Taming of the Shrew. This time, whos taming whom Cassandra Pomfret holds strong opinions she isnt shy about voicing. But her extremely plain speaking has caused an uproar, and her exasperated father, hoping a husband will rein her in, has ruled that her beloved sister cant marry until Cassandra does. Now, thanks to a certain wild-living nobleman, the last shreds of Cassandras reputation are about to disintegrate, taking her sisters future and her familys good name along with them. The Duke of Ashmonts looks make women swoon. His character flaws are beyond counting. Hes lost a perfectly good bride through his own carelessness. He nearly killed one of his two best friends. Still, troublemaker that he is, he knows that damaging a ladys good name isnt sporting. The only way to right the wrong is to marry herand hope she doesnt smother him in his sleep on their wedding night.

I think Chase didn't have quite enough inspiration from “Ten Things I Hate About You“/The Taming of the Shrew because the plot of this feels a bit overstuffed and lopsided. But as always, the romantic relationship is delightful, as His Dis-Grace the Duke thoroughly reforms and even becomes an early Victorian feminist under the taming influence of a strong, capable woman. A fun read.

I love this book! It is both well written and intelligent. This is a retelling of Shakespeare‘s “The Taming of the Shrew”, which is why I think I enjoyed it so much. The heroine is single not because of a lack of beauty or desirability, but because she is politically active and has a habit of speaking her mind to anyone at any time in any situation. The banter between the hero and the heroine is hilarious. (Difficult Dukes, second in series)

Preferred the first book in the series more but still a good one. I would have liked a little more drama. One thing is if you follow Chase on any of her socials she post inspiration and historical facts she uses in her books and it makes reading her books more fun... at least for me ha! A quick read between all my heavier books. #bookspinbingo

A mild day out. So reading while these three ...basically tear up the lawn looking for treasure. 😅
@TheBookHippie these are the main three I am always writing about and love those stickers!
The older one will be here after she‘s out of school!

slategreyskies When my sons were that age, I‘d plant things in the driveway for them to find. Bits of tiny turquoise colored rocks from old aquariums or an old Matchbox car or even once a piece of pyrite. They‘d dig about and find a dusty piece of something they were sure was treasure and bring it to me so so excited. I miss those days. 4y
Ash.on.the.line @slategreyskies that‘s a great idea! I‘ll have to try that with them. It‘s so fun to see their joy at a simple thing. 4y

thegirlwiththelibrarybag The ending of the Jackaby quartet was great but I‘d also be over the moon if the author decided to revisit the characters. 4y
Ash.on.the.line @thegirlwiththelibrarybag Yes I would love to see what they are up to! 😄 4y

This Saturday evening I'm starting an ARC of the next Loretta Chase book. Her last book came out in 2017 and I've patiently been waiting for the next book in the series. Finally out in December! #romantsy
