I Promised Not to Tell: Raising a Transgender Child
I Promised Not to Tell: Raising a Transgender Child | Evans B Cheryl, Cheryl B Evans
7 posts | 2 read | 5 to read
"I Promised Not to Tell is quite possibly one of the most important books to date on a very controversial and little understood social issue: transgenderism. If you are facing such a situation with your child, I urge you to read this book. Both you and your child need what Cheryl has so kindly shared with readers and parents. And when you do, I'm sure you will come away impressed not just by the courage shown by Jordan in this book, but by the love Cheryl and her husband have for their children and their compassion for all people. I loved I Promised Not to Tell. Couldn't put it down. Highly recommended reading." Viga Boland for Reader's Favorite 5 Star Review "With tears in my eyes I finished your beautiful manuscript. All I can say is this book is absolutely amazing! All week I have been pushing other things aside so I can continue to read it. I am so impressed by the paperwork that you were able to complete and change the law as well. I have a much better understand now of transgender people. This story will help others, so much." Tori Pines In the beginning, transgender was not even on Mom's radar. There was a so much to learn. She went from knowing nothing at all about the subject to becoming significantly more knowledgeable. She partook in a journey of learning that evolved into one of self discovery for her as much as for her transgender child. There were valuable lessons and gifted blessings along the way. There were also times of great heartache and pain. Mom was strengthened, she was tested, she wept and she prayed and in the end, she survived as did her transgender child. The journey this family took is spelled out in the pages of this book in the hope that it offers encouragement, support and wisdom to others who may have found themselves on a similar path. Mom shares many of the resources she used along her own family's journey and extends to you a friendship that goes far beyond the pages of this book. This is a uniquely written and thought provoking true story which transitions beautifully between the family's personal journey and some of the larger societal issues that face the transgender community today. What is unique about this book is that it follows one gender assured child from birth through age eighteen. You get a real sense of what this family went through. Their son's desperate effort to comply to societal gender norms, a suicide attempt, a family members struggle with God and transgenderism, sex reassignment surgeries, a death and so much more. This book shares it all in the hopes of making a difference in what seems like a harsh and cruel world for transgender people. Even if you don't know a transgender person, this book will make you feel as if you do. Maybe you have been curious about this topic and looking for a book that shares honest and intimate details on the subject. If so, this book will certainly do that for you. Coming out as a transgender person can be challenging. This book could be an excellent way to introduce the topic to parents and loved ones. Perhaps helping to pave the way to acceptance and understanding. Thank you for taking the time to consider the book "I Promised Not to Tell Raising a transgender child." If you buy, read and enjoy this book please kindly share your review.

Also, a great read and memorable moment of my #bestofjanuary as I read Cheryl's book on Jordan's transgender story. I've been keeping a pen pal friendship with Cheryl on Goodreads, as she continues to schedule for podcast interviews though the year. 🇨🇦

Pickpick

I've been in touch with Cheryl on Twitter, while reading her anonymous (by pen name) true life experiences with raising a transgender child. I also live in Ontario, with our great progress on HRT health care and handling ID complications that Jordan's case did help to change laws on. The book is a deeply hearty share of the hardships and triumphs, also honesty considering the family's feelings on each chapter in the end. Loving #transbooks wisdom!

Earlier and onwards, as I share thoughts with Cheryl on her and Jordan's story. -- My mother was once a secretary with our Toronto school's church, but was unkindly refused "We don't accept just anybody." when we moved north in 2003. While non-religious myself (pretty much non-binary in my views) supporting my mom though seeking a church community, was important on repairs about faith, assuring love and compassion with family-oriented people.

Joybishoptx This looks like a good read. My daughter is friends with several trans youth and as a teacher I have had all sorts of types of students. Anything that can help me understand makes me happy. 7y
SpiderCrafts @Joybishoptx Glad to hear, Joy! This book is great on understanding everything, for Jordan and his family. The school support described is really good as a best example of all handled well. 🙂 (edited) 7y
Joybishoptx Every school I've been in has treated our trans children with dignity and respect. I'm thankful for that. 7y

I Promised Not To Tell, is currently up for holiday discount offers. 😊🎄I did pick up another iTunes card and got my copy for iPhone reading. Having found Cheryl, with our Twitter chats at times; she's thrilled to hear I'll be checking in about the read, with thoughts and deep feels. (Note: 🇨🇦 iTunes is a dollar up, but still very awesome, counting as my first iBooks purchase!)
