Confess
Confess: The Autobiography | Rob Halford
3 posts | 2 read
The legendary frontman of Judas Priest, one of the most successful heavy metal bands of all time, celebrates five decades of heavy metal in this tell-all memoir. Most priests hear confessions. This one is making his. Rob Halford, front man of global iconic metal band Judas Priest, is a true "Metal God." Raised in Britain's hard-working, heavy industrial heartland, he and his music were forged in the Black Country. Confess, his full autobiography, is an unforgettable rock 'n' roll story-a journey from a Walsall council estate to musical fame via alcoholism, addiction, police cells, ill-fated sexual trysts, and bleak personal tragedy, through to rehab, coming out, redemption . . . and finding love. Now, he is telling his gospel truth. Told with Halford's trademark self-deprecating, deadpan Black Country humor, Confess is the story of an extraordinary five decades in the music industry. It is also the tale of unlikely encounters with everybody from Superman to Andy Warhol, Madonna, Jack Nicholson, and the Queen. More than anything else, it's a celebration of the fire and power of heavy metal. Rob Halford has decided to Confess. Because it's good for the soul.

In honor of #Pride #LoveIsLove for today‘s #tuesdaytunes , I pick “Fever” by Judas Priest. Rob Halford, the singer for JP, officially came out as gay during an interview in 1998, and has since been a vocal advocate for LGBTQ rights. While Judas Priest is best known for “Breaking The Law”, the tender song “Fever” addresses Rob‘s journey, from feeling trapped in a false identity:
“Like I was in a cell, a captured heart as well”

DaveGreen7777 Then Rob describes finding true love: “Then one night as I walked, I heard your body talk, I saw a shooting star. In some magnetic trance, our beating hearts would dance, and crash down from afar.” (edited) 6mo
DaveGreen7777 Finally, the song ends with Rob spending his life with his soulmate: “Oh, so close together, we were like angels in the night. Living the dream, at last I‘ll be with you forever, and all at once it feels so right.” 6mo
DaveGreen7777 Judas Priest isn‘t known for having many ballads, but this song is truly heartwarming, especially since after writing it, Rob has been together with his husband for over 25 years! A beautiful story of a person finding love after learning to love himself for who he really is! 😊🌈 🏳️‍🌈 6mo

DaveGreen7777 @RaeLovesToRead As an aside, Rae, this American will be eternally grateful to your country for giving us heavy metal! ????? Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Motörhead, Iron Maiden, all from the U.K. ?? But of course, I am most grateful to the U.K. for giving us… Dr. Rae!!! ? 6mo
RaeLovesToRead Awwww... you're too kind 🫂🫂🫂 My parents used to have matching Motorhead t-shirts 😋 I'm not much into metal BUT I do have a saxophone that I can almost play 3 notes on. 6mo

Definitely a Confession. Rob Halford was honest about how he felt trapped and frightened to tell the world that he was a gay man. That fear and anxiety lead him to bad relationships and addiction. But it's also an inspiring story for as he says in the Introduction: "Today, I am clean, sober, in love, happy… and fearless. I am living an honest life and that means that nothing, and nobody, can hurt me anymore." ??

Crinoline_Laphroaig I live w/ a Metalhead. Counted 19 Judas Priest Albums in our Music Collection. Used to stay up late & watch Headbangers Ball. I've listened to a lot of Heavy Metal, but I'm also a sucker for a catchy dance tune. Imagine my delight to read that Rob Halford the METAL GOD refers to Himself as a 'Pop Tart'. He loves Madonna and Gaga! Needless to say I will be referencing this everytime my husband cringes at my music choices in the future. 😉 4y

"I wanted to push back against the self-appointed, puritanical censors."

Having myself been raised by Self-Righteous, Religious Nutters - Parental Guidance (in response to being put on the PMRC Filthy 15 List) has always been my favorite Judas Priest Song.??

The_Penniless_Author If you dig around online you can find footage of the PMRC hearings, including one hilarious Senate Commerce Subcommitte meeting where all the senators gathered around a tiny wood-box TV to click their tongues at Van Halen's 'Hot for Teacher' 🤣 4y
