pickVery readable, incredibly practical, Gates outlines the need and options of how to get to zero emissions by 2050. I really liked his use of data, quick explanations of why a certain industry releases greenhouse gases, and how innovative tech or policies can bring them emissions to zero. Again, we can‘t recycle or turn off the lights our way out of this- we need massive innovations, prioritization and investment now.
pickHonestly, I was dreading reading this because I am so disturbed and upset in my daily life about climate change and the human impact on our planet. I didn‘t want to hear more bad news. However, this isn‘t doom and gloom, just a straightforward approach to what we can do. Gates is an incredible human in that he‘s a genius and also a humanitarian and wants what is best for us and the planet. His approaches to solving our problems makes total sense.
pickI admit I'm a climate pessimist. I don't think we, mankind, will make the changes necessary in time to avoid the coming crisis. That said, I did enjoy this book. Gates is optimistic yet very realistic, he knows that changes needed to avoid the coming climate catastrophe will be hard, expensive, require major innovations and large sacrifices on everyone's part. It's a good book for those interested in climate change, it is written clearly ⬇️⬇️⬇️
pickI haven‘t read nearly enough on climate science. I appreciated Bill‘s straightforward approach to explaining and giving ideas of how to tackle (with innovation and policy) the largest carbon producing industries. I had no idea the production of concrete is so bad for the environment. In fact, it is probably the worst thing we do. It‘s obvious Bill has read a lot on the subject, but if you are already well versed, this is probably too basic.
