A queen now in exile as a traitor, Lara has watched Ithicana be conquered by her own father, helpless to do anything to stop the destruction. But when she learns her husband, Aren, has been captured in battle, Lara knows there is only one reason her father is keeping him alive: as bait for his traitorous daughter. And it is bait she fully intends to take. Risking her life to the Tempest Seas, Lara returns to Ithicana with a plan not only to free its king, but for liberating the Bridge Kingdom from her fathers clutches using his own weapons: the sisters whose lives she spared. But not only is the palace inescapable, there are more players in the game than Lara ever realized, enemies and allies switching sides in the fight for crowns, kingdoms, and bridges. But her greatest adversary of all might be the very man shes trying to free the husband she betrayed. With everything she loves in jeopardy, Lara must decide who and what she is fighting for: her kingdom, her husband, or herself.

I‘m not quite sure how to rate this one. It just wasn‘t as good as the first one. I didn‘t care as much for the characters, and even though the story is action-packed, I felt bored in some parts. I also wished for more depth in the internal conflicts of the characters. I knew how they felt, but I often couldn‘t FEEL it myself. Still, it‘s not a bad book. I enjoyed the politics and most battles. I just wish there was more to the book to enjoy.

⭐️4.2
Such a shocking ending, was waiting for a bit more drama. although the rest of the book kept up its pace with drama, action & self-reflection on the choices of some characters.

I love every aspect of this book! Badass woman warriors, complicated rescuing schemes, near-death adventures, and so much more! I love the emotional struggles within both Lara and Aren, as well as their complicating feelings for each other. The length they were willing to sacrifice for each other, even knowing they couldn't be together, was even more romantic to me than the previous book! I cried at the ending 😭

This book was so good I finished it in a day!
I thought the first one (The Bridge Kingdom) was good but holy moly! If you like fast paced, action packed but still want romance (as much as you can have during a war) and amazinggggg character development (for Lara IMO) then you NEED to read this book!

annettochka Oh, I've read it!!! I loved this one and the first one, too bad the third is only on audio version now... 3y

Book #47: I liked this one more than the first. There was much more fast paced action that kept me interested and we got to meet some characters that we had only heard briefly about previously. I still didn‘t care for the politics aspect. I‘ll be interested to read Kerris & Zarrah‘s story.

Finished this last night! It‘s book 2 in the Bridge Kingdom series. I loved both of these and am surprised at how underrated they are! What‘s a book you love that‘s underrated?

I wasn't sure how the author was going to pull off the ending after how the 1st book ended but it was exactly how I was hoping it would end. This one was non-stop action and kept my anxiety level high. #fantasy #kindle

Consistent with the first book in terms of tone, action, and engagement. I liked the setting of this book a little better- I‘m always a sucker for the desert- fantasy. I solid duology.
