An Italian father and his teenage son are in Marseille to see a specialist.Forced to spend two sleepless days and nights together in order to determine if the son is cured from epilepsy they walk the streets of the city at night,go to a jazz club, explore the surroundings of Marseille, meet people but mainly talk and through their communication find a deep and intimate connection, learn things about one another they otherwise wouldn‘t have.Loved it!

Funny story: This was actually my June draw for #roll100 - but when I got the book I thought “I could read the first few pages now“... and the first few pages turned into the whole book. This one came to be my favourite Carofiglio so far. It's a heartwarming father-and-son-story, that goes deeper with every page. Simply beautiful. Touching. Caring. Moving.

Of course there'll be another book for June.

Wow wow wow 🤩. The story, the writing 🥰. A father and son find themselves in Marseille for 48hours. With nothing to do they manage to “find each other”. What a beautiful story.

Verisimilitude. What every author is after. This novel about a son getting to know his father on a 2 day all - nighter is fully engaging. It felt so real that I kept forgetting that it wasn‘t a memoir. All parents crave this revelatory 48 hours to get to know our kids. It‘s done gently via the son‘s nostalgic look back. And then there‘s all the atmospheric walking day & night through a seedy and romantic Marseille which somehow is refreshing.

I enjoyed this book. It was a very fast read, only 180 pages. A father and son find themselves in an unusual circumstance where they need to stay awake for two days straight. They both learn a lot about each other during this time. Up until then, they had hardly spoken at all. This book was translated from Italian to English. Much of the story took place in France. Thank you Goodreads, for the ARC!
