Download a FREE sneak peek of Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley. In Firekeeper's Daughter, debut author Angeline Boulley crafts a groundbreaking YA thriller about a Native teen who must root out the corruption in her community, for readers of Angie Thomas and Tommy Orange. As a biracial, unenrolled tribal member and the product of a scandal, eighteen-year-old Daunis Fontaine has never quite fit in, both in her hometown and on the nearby Ojibwe reservation. Daunis dreams of studying medicine, but when her family is struck by tragedy, she puts her future on hold to care for her fragile mother. The only bright spot is meeting Jamie, the charming new recruit on her brother Levis hockey team. Yet even as Daunis falls for Jamie, certain details dont add up and she senses the dashing hockey star is hiding something. Everything comes to light when Daunis witnesses a shocking murder, thrusting her into the heart of a criminal investigation. Reluctantly, Daunis agrees to go undercover, but secretly pursues her own investigation, tracking down the criminals with her knowledge of chemistry and Ojibwe traditional medicine. But the deceptionsand deathskeep piling up and soon the threat strikes too close to home. Now, Daunis must learn what it means to be a strong Anishinaabe kwe (Ojibwe woman) and how far she'll go to protect her community, even if it tears apart the only world shes ever known.

Another #bookhaul! This one from Book Outlet. Top one is Maya‘s, two we are sharing, and the non-fiction ones are for me.

My therapist recommended The Body Keeps The Score, and I know it is a foundational book on trauma, but I hated the way it ignored the trauma of victims of sexual assault by American soldiers, and only focused on the PTSD of said soldiers. The Trauma book above sounds similar, but not as problematic.

slategreyskies Ah, my therapist recommended that one as well, and I purchased a copy, but I haven‘t read it yet. Good to be warned ahead of time. 2y

Scochrane26 The trauma one sounds interesting. Body Keeps the Score was interesting but not something I recommend to clients because it has so much science & was hard for me to get through. 2y
alisiakae @Scochrane26 I have a psychology background which my therapist knows, so I think that‘s why she recommended it! 2y
Scochrane26 @4thhouseontheleft I have a few clients who enjoy reading, but I‘m not sure how much NF they read. 2y
