#HumbleHarvest Day 2: #AllSoulsDay reminded me of this gorgeous picturebook of Olga Tokarczuk. The cure for the man who lost his soul: “You must find a place of your own, sit there quietly, and wait for your soul. Right now it‘s sure to be wherever you were two or three years ago. So the waiting might take a while. I can‘t think of any other cure for you.” My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-niU

This is a little book with a simple but beautiful story about reconnecting with oneself. I could look at Joanna Consejo‘s moving illustrations over and over again, they fill the pages with quiet progress. A good reminder to slow down in our lives and ‘stop and smell the roses‘.

“But sometimes he felt as if the world around him were flat, as if he were moving across a smooth page in a math book that was covered in evenly spaced squares..”

“If someone could look down on us from above, they‘d see that the world is full of people running about in a hurry, sweating and very tired, and their lost souls.”

#MayCharacters Day 16: We need to be #merciful to our lost souls. This story made me think about the things that we value, how they define us, and the ever-pressing need to just sit still every once in awhile – maybe not for years at a time similar to John in this story – but enough for us to catch our breath, and for our lost souls to reunite with us.
