Engaging food description and this is the reason I have added an additional star to the one I initially thought it deserved.
I feel like I've wasted my time so I would not recommend this book.
The tagged one is my favourite so far.
“The Midnight Library“ and “The Food of Love“ are at the bottom of my list and I don't recommend them. The former is written well but it's fantasy so not my kind of book and the latter one is written badly and it's not engaging at all, quite the opposite!

I fell in love with this book. The author Lara Maiklem is so passionate that it feels like you're walking with her along the river while together you find treasures from the past. I was reading it very slowly because I didn't want it to finish but I didn't only read it, I felt it.

He did it again! This book is even better than his first one.
Just genial, rich of British humour and clever wit.
Relationships and dialogues between the characters are well developed. For me, the plot is not much realistic but it's well put together.
Definitely worth reading it!

pick⭐⭐⭐⭐ For publishing year #2021 I chose this book that here in the UK was on top of many to-read lists last year. It was very engaging and gripping. The topics are mental health issues, women's infertility and motherhood. I liked the author' style of writing so I'll want to read other books written by her. pickJust finished reading a book published in #1991 and ready to start one written in #2021, 30 years later.
The "wisdom of no escape" was easy to read but I feel I haven't learned much from it. Also, there's too much religion (Buddhism) in it which I think should have been stated on the cover. Overall, it made me feel calm when I was reading it so it's been a pleasant enough read.

pickIt wasn't love at the first sight but the more I got into it, the more I felt this was the right book for me, at just the right moment.
While reading it, I had lots of ‘aha‘ moments - I've learned more about emotional life and I'm sure I'm going to be consulting it again in the future "on-demand".

Thinking of the #19822022 challenge hosted by @Librarybelle (I'll start it the first day after my 39th birthday which is on the 29th of Dec) I might pick this book as the first one...
panI like the author's style because I follow his blog, but unfortunately, this was a disappointment. The information is valuable but it's exactly the same as his blog posts and for a book, it felt dry.
At the end of the day, focusing our energy on things we can change and accepting the things we can't change... is the secret to happiness... Easy peasy, isn't it? 😅

If a problem is such that it can be remedied, then there's no need to worry about it. It's more sensible to spend the energy focusing on the solution rather than worrying about the problem. Alternatively, if there's no solution, then there's also no point in being worried about it, because you can't do anything about it anyway. In that case, the sooner you accept this fact, the easier it will be on you.

pickI had high expectations about this book, but having now read it, am left with somewhat mixed feelings. I did mostly enjoy it and certainly gained from reading it.
I didn't particularly enjoy the frequent use of long quotations from other people in the book, because I found them distracting, although I did enjoy his personal experiences as practical examples because it made it easier to understand the message he wanted to convey.
pickAn impressive and smart novel, it made me feel like it was a memoir of a real person. Very easy to read, I couldn't wait to finish the book but at the same time, I didn't want it to finish. I was so emotionally invested in the characters that I felt I cared for them and I even cried hard at one point.
It covers important topics such as sexuality and sexism; also female inner power and the power of love. I can't recommend it enough!

When you realise you can tell someone your truth, when you can show yourself to them, when you stand in front of them bare and their response is "You're safe with me" - that's intimacy.
There are people who see a beautiful flower and rush over to pick it. They want to hold it in their hands, they want to own it. They want the flower's beauty be theirs, to be within their possession, their control. Don wasn't like that. At least, not at first. Don was happy to be near the flower, to look at the flower, to appreciate the flower simply being.
"And happiness... what is it, after all? Desires are a torment, aren't they? And it's clear that happiness is when there are no longer any desires, not even one...".

A thought-stimulating book.
In this totalitarian state, where individuality is oppressed to the point that there's no "I", only "We", freedom and happiness are incompatible.
If you conform to others you're not free, but does this make you happy? In other words, can you be happy if you're not free to live your own individuality? Isn't it freedom that makes you happy? Happiness is freedom - freedom to chose to be happy.
Worth reading.
