I am The Rage
I am The Rage | Martina McGowan
5 posts | 4 read | 25 to read
I am The Rage is a poetry collection that explores racial injustice from the raw, unfiltered viewpoint of a Black woman in America. Dr. Martina McGowan is a retired MD, a mother, grandmother, and a poet. Her poetry provides insights that no think piece on racism can; putting readers in the uncomfortable position of feeling, reflecting, and facing what it means to be a Black American. This entire collection was created during 2020, many shortly after the deaths of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd, to name but a few.

I Am the Rage - There are five million tears on my pillow. There is a cut somewhere on my body that is never healing. I cannot stop this wound from bleeding. I cannot stop my heart from breaking. I cannot stop my voice from moaning. I cannot stop my soul from aching!
I just turn from worry to fear and then back to worry again. I fight for the belief of optimism and the hope of equality and equity, but often this well runs dry.👇🏽

Nute And now my head is filled with another mother‘s words. The author of this small book of revelatory truths. She, who is also a grandmother (a blessing that hopefully one day awaits me). She understands my sorrow! She feels my brokenness! She whispers my fears into the dark dark night!
Highly recommended!

I purposely wandered the book aisle that day. Determined to purchase a book. I laid hands upon this tiny thing, drawn by the title and the abstract cover art. Unknowing of content, a decision was made that this might be worth an effort. Unaware that within my hands I held pages of words that needed to be voiced, pages of sentences that needed to be read, pages and pages of truthfulness from someone bold and courageous enough to say it.👇🏽

Nute Dr. McGowan wrote these words into sentences into poetic passages amid the madness and chaos that was the year 2020. 4y

#FabulousFebruary Readathon
Finally ready to make an effort towards this upcoming week‘s readathon which commences today. There is the greatest possibility that I am about to fall asleep so I‘m committing singularly to this tiny book of poetry tonight. Given its subject matter, I might be up all night.
