The oldest bookshop in the world is located in Lisbon - or at least the place where there has been sold books from the same adress for the longest time. It all started in 1732, more than twenty years before the devastating earthquake which wiped out the lower parts of the city.
Today it is part of ‘Bertrand‘, a chain of bookshops, and though it is a beautiful shop it doesn‘t look THAT old. I bought the tagged book which I look forward to.
Guess where we have just started vacation...
I‘m super restless this morning; too restless to focus on my current reads. Spent some time making roasted eggplant with eggs - a breakfast I used to make pretty regularly before we had the kids. It‘s raining cats and dogs and my husband suggested dipping into this old favourite.
Another wonderful day of exploring in Portugal. We are in Coimbra now and today I dragged hubby to the University Library which is rich in design and books. It holds more than 60,000 books from the 16th to 18th century‘s. Unfortunately they don‘t allow photography in the most divine section. The bottom left photo I took looking from across the river up to the University on top of the hillðŸ˜
