How to Not Die Alone
How to Not Die Alone: The Surprising Science of Finding Love | Logan Ury
6 posts | 8 read | 5 to read
In this funny and practical guide, a behavioral scientist turned dating coach helps you understand - and overcome - the hidden forces keeping you from finding lasting love.Have you ever looked around and wondered, "Why has everyone found love except me?"You're not the only one. We've gone from the first iPod ("1,000 songs in your pocket") to Tinder - 1,000 potential dates in your pocket. Choosing a partner is harder now than ever before.A lasting relationship doesn't just appear in your life: it's the culmination of a series of decisions, including when to get out there, whom to date, how to end it with the wrong person, when to settle down with the right one, and everything in between. Often we don't understand why we make certain choices, and that leads to mistakes. And those mistakes thwart us on our quest to find love.Drawing from years studying psychology and relationships, behavioral scientist turned dating coach Logan Ury reveals the hidden forces that fuel faulty decision-making and prevent us from finding love. But awareness on its own doesn't lead to results. Knowing you shouldn't date "bad boys" or "manic pixie dream girls," for example, doesn't make them any less appealing - you have to actually change your behavior. Ury shows you how. You'll discover what's really holding you back in dating (it's not what you think), why your current dating app habits aren't helping you find a great match (and how to fix them), and why there's no such thing as "The One" (but you'll find love anyway), and much, much more. This book focuses on a different decision in each chapter - from setting up your dating app profile onward - and incorporates insights from behavioral science, original research, hands-on exercises, and stories about people just like you. It's designed to transform your love life. HOW TO NOT DIE ALONE will help you find, build, and keep the relationship of your dreams.

Maybe I should actually post a review when I have my own success story? Anyway, I think this book is good for late bloomers like myself as well as seasoned daters for a fresh perspective. Good advice from meeting people/making dating profiles to moving in/deciding to marry or not, and also on how to break up. Ultimately it provides good advice on finding what is right for you and setting boundaries. Realised I‘ve always been a Hesitater!

I didn‘t find any life changing advice in this book, but I can see how it would be helpful for people without good relationships as models. A large part of it is about changing your own self sabotaging actions as well as considering more people as potential partners. The middle section includes some thoughtful strategies to try while actually dating new people, but much of it was just common sense.

Finished this up on audio today. I got the rec from a fellow Litten and they‘d mentioned it was on Spotify. I upgraded to premium recently and figured I‘d give it a listen. I thought it was good and she gave me a lot to think about. I‘d tried the online dating thing years ago and basically have given up since then. Now I am considering giving it another go in the new year using some of her tips

Good for what it is: a glib take on dating with supporting studies and anecdotes. Not everyone has had good relationship modeling so a book like this that breaks it down is helpful. The first part borders on obnoxious, or at least the target audience falls into that group of selfish rich young prey people. But the second section redeems the book and gives helpful info. The final section was okay. I do like that it forces you to rethink things.

First review?! What an honor!! This book is a REVELATION. Logan Ury has changed my outlook on myself, on dating, and on what it takes to find a life partner. For anyone who feels stuck with the modern dating scene, I can‘t recommend this enough! Concrete tools and action steps backed by behavioral science. AND the Spotify audiobook is a delight - read by the author!
P.S. - Spotify premium, monthly 15 hrs of free audiobooks now!? Game changer!

CampbellTaraL I'm not dating during the holidays (food before doods!) but your recommendation encouraged me to pickup a Spotify sub and give this book a listen. Thanks! 14mo
