Maybe I should actually post a review when I have my own success story? Anyway, I think this book is good for late bloomers like myself as well as seasoned daters for a fresh perspective. Good advice from meeting people/making dating profiles to moving in/deciding to marry or not, and also on how to break up. Ultimately it provides good advice on finding what is right for you and setting boundaries. Realised I‘ve always been a Hesitater!

1. I hate when books get a bit silly like the tagged book, See Under Love, Foe, and I will never get over Her Fearful Symmetry. I just can‘t suspend disbelief 🤷‍♀️

2. The more people go on about ACOTAR the less I want to read it - same goes for Crawdads, Blood Orange and any domestic thriller

#ihavequestions

RaeLovesToRead I'm like that with films - I didn't watch Juno or Slumdog Millionaire for ages because everyone kept saying how great they are! 😅 With books, though, I'll take any excuse to read them! 🤣🤣 2y
TrishB These posts are funny 😁 I loved Her Fearful Symmetry! 2y
Vansa 😱😱Same issue with Her fearful symmetry! It was..... completely ridiculous. The entire ending was just so idiotic. How did she ever think.....dying was a good idea? 2y
julesG Read ACOTAR for #DickSoapGate and #LitsyAfterDark it's definitely on my "overrated" pile. 2y
RosePressedPages I finally tried ACOTAR after years of avoiding it and it was not worth it 🙃 bailed on book two and I still can‘t believe I finished book one 2y

Emily goes to anger management group because of a court order. There she meets Jake who‘s struggling to cope with his autistic son. It‘s far from love at first sight for them but there‘s an instant connection between her and the son which changes everything. A lot is from the author‘s experience and you can feel the frustration, guilt, tenderness and joy. The characters felt so real; flawed but not annoying. Somehow this was both cute and tough👇

Cosyreader I liked reading from different perspectives, including Alfie‘s, and getting an insight into autism. I also liked that the characters aren‘t classically beautiful - in fact I don‘t think there‘s any description of Emily‘s body other than her head 👍. I did think the story worked out quite neatly (very suddenly) at the end but then that‘s what I tend to like. Solid 4 ⭐️ 4y

I really gave this a chance. It was shortlisted for the Staunch book prize which is for a thriller that doesn‘t feature any violence towards women. Even though nothing (absolutely nothing) happens in the book in terms of violence, a lot still goes on in the mc‘s head so we‘re still reading about a woman being brutally murdered because Vesta imagines it 🤷‍♀️ read if you want, I‘ve just wasted the week on this and I‘m actually naffed off 😩😂

BOSH!: How to Live Vegan | Ian Theasby, Henry David Firth
post image
Pickpick

A gentle, non-judgemental guide for anyone wanting to go #vegan, veggie, reduce meat consumption etc, basically anyone! Good advice for going #plantbased (rather than junk food vegan like me 😩). I was disappointed that they delicately skimmed over the topic of animal welfare, but that‘s their approach, so whatever works 🤷‍♀️. Lots of info covering ingredients, shopping, meals, and non-food things like clothes and skincare. Also a quick read 👍

Cosyreader Just need the BOSH! boys to release a book with gentle, non-judgemental ways of answering questions like my dad‘s favourites: what about lions, they eat meat 🙄? What if you‘re on a desert island and there were only animals to eat 🤦‍♀️? Would you rather be killed in a slaughterhouse or mauled to death 🥱? 4y
TrishB I‘ve had those questions all my life! I always say they don‘t impinge on my current life or choices so I don‘t need to think about them 😁 4y
Cosyreader @TrishB good answer! We don‘t really talk about it at home anymore, I didn‘t get much further than “dad I‘m not a buffalo” 😂. I think in future I‘ll just say it‘s my choice and I‘m not questioning or challenging what they‘re eating so why are they? Or something like that 😁 4y
TrishB That‘s a good one too! 👍🏻 4y

Refreshing, honest, stubbornly positive and challenging so many stereotypes. What was eye-opening and tragic was the medical section - so many patients mistreated and misdiagnosed because they‘re fat 🙄🤦‍♀️ really shows how stigmas can kill! So many trigger warnings: self-harm, eating disorders, bullying and just overall sh*ttiness (from media etc)
Read for much-needed #bodypositivity and #fatpositivity ❤️

Wow so this left me in tears and I came here to see what other people said about it and saw ... “coffee table book”. I do believe that books affect us differently at different times and I think that I found this at a very right time because I‘ve been 👎 for a while. I wasn‘t expecting a lot but there was so much inspiration packed into those 3 hrs and I need to listen to it again. Sometimes we need reminding that we‘re enough ❤️

After reading all the other reviews on this I feel like I don‘t need to say much other than this: if you haven‘t read this, do so! I‘d never thought much about gendered language and now my eyes have been opened 🤯. I laughed, I clapped, I cried, I raged and I definitely have to get the print so I can reread. I now have a deep appreciation for the word “y‘all” but I don‘t think I can pull it off being a Brit 😂. May have found my best 2021 read.

“To simplify listening to this book I‘ve chosen to use him and he consistently when I refer to examples not associated to any specific person. I know you have enough imagination to insert a her or a she in your thoughts where this may be appropriate.”

Umm how about they or them? By announcing this, I‘m now very aware of every “he” and “him” and it‘s already grating. 😑

Chrissyreadit That would annoy me! 4y
Cosyreader @Chrissyreadit thank you! I wondered if I was being too sensitive 4y
Chrissyreadit @Cosyreader I don‘t think so. I would have preferred gender neutral pronouns to patriarchical pronouns. I feel like it‘s imposing a gender preference or power/authority these days. And I‘m totally ok with he/him pronouns and people just irritated that it still is used to define everything frequently. 4y
See All 8 Comments
Cosyreader @Chrissyreadit I agree and since my last comment it‘s been playing on my mind, especially the use of the word “simplify”, suggesting that making things gender equal would complicate them. The book is about effective communication and he says that words are important and yet he‘s not considering his own 4y
Megabooks Possibly the author is an idiot?? So annoying! 4y

Short and snappy guide with a nice checklist at the end on what we can do for the environment. I have become a bit obsessed but I think it can be a good thing. It‘s definitely opened my eyes to things we take for granted and I‘m beginning to realise that it‘s going to take a lot more than just recycling to make a difference.

Future We Choose: Surviving the Climate Crisis | Christiana Figueres, Tom Rivett-Carnac

Just finished listening to this so feeling inspired! I recently watched A Life on Our Planet which was devastating but optimistic. I‘ve been on the lookout for ideas on what changes to make, and this was a good starting point. I think my biggest challenge is spreading the word - I‘ve been vegan since Jan and my family haven‘t always been understanding 😕. I like the idea of being a “stubborn optimist” though! #climate #climatecrisis #vegan

Sace I was vegan for so many years and I really wish why I stopped. My husband and I are moving back into at least a meatless diet. Dairy is next (though we haven't had cow's milk in 15 years.) Recently I manged to start using reusable shopping bags. 4y
Sace *managed 4y
alisiakae I‘m reading this right now too. 4y
See All 15 Comments
Cosyreader @Sace I read when I started that many vegans go back due to pressure from family/friends and I understand why. Sometimes I just feel like a nuisance. That‘s really good progress though, even one meatless day a week makes a difference. Well done with the bags too, I‘d like to cut down on plastic. I‘ve started using period pants instead of pads and they‘re great 4y
Cosyreader @4thhouseontheleft nice! What do you think? 4y
Sace @Cosyreader the sad thing is that I did have support, it just got so damn hard. Cooking is not my thing and both my husband's job and mine got so time consuming and we started cooking less and doing more takeout. I'm at the time in my life that I wouldn't be needing period pants so I don't want to invest in them. My daughter loves hers though. (I realize how crappy I sound.) 4y
Cosyreader @Sace I get that, I‘m not a fan of cooking either. I like that there are now loads more alternatives and lots of “fake meat” available which makes things easier. More options on menus as well! That‘s okay, glad your daughter likes hers. I didn‘t think you sounded crappy at all 😊 4y
Chrissyreadit @Cosyreader any time you need or want encouragement about being vegan feel free to tag me! I‘m very realistic about how challenging it can be! I started as a vegetarian over 30 years ago because of my concern for the environment. Now, I add a lot of health info- one documentary that helped family members recently was The Game Changers. Forks Over Knives is great too. I do not share the animal ones because I am tired of hearing someone doesnt want 4y
Chrissyreadit To feel guilty and won‘t watch it (it just makes me dislike the person- so you know it‘s wrong and hurtful but you do it anyway bothers me). I‘m not sure what your income is- but The Hungry Root is great for fast, fresh and delicious- you choose what food and diet you want. Also, there are a handful of go to dishes I‘m learning even now to use on days I can‘t cook. And Beyond Meat and Impossible burgers are hits- expensive but my kids friends 4y
Chrissyreadit Love to eat over and eat them- ( we have two friends that also quarentine and we keep a social bubble together) Again, feel free to reach out any time! 4y
Cosyreader @Chrissyreadit thank you so much! I reached a stage where I was getting overwhelmed and anxious after watching graphic footage of factory farms and slaughterhouses and any time I tried saying something I was accused of trying to “convert” my family like it was a religion. I don‘t have vegan friends so it can be lonely but I‘m in a few Facebook groups which helps. My mum is doing Veganuary with me so I‘m excited about that! 4y
Chrissyreadit What is veganuary? 4y
Cosyreader @Chrissyreadit I plan on putting on Cowspiracy for my parents plus Forks over Knives and The Game Changers. I want to watch Dominion, Land of Hope and Glory and Earthlings but I‘m quite nervous because I know they‘ll be upsetting. I know what you mean, I get frustrated about the hypocrisy, especially because my family love dogs. 4y
Cosyreader @Chrissyreadit Veganuary is where people try being vegan for a month and it‘s how I started last year. It‘s run by a charity who work with food manufacturers to get more plant based options and I‘m really excited this year because there‘ll be so many more things to try! There‘s a site where you can sign up and do the challenge and they send emails every day which really helped me stay motivated and informed 4y
Chrissyreadit Nice!!! I love that! 4y

I can‘t read too much non-fiction at once because it always saddens and frustrates me. This is a well-researched and enlightening history and commentary about the public school system in the UK. I had no idea that they were originally set up to educate the poor - it‘s quite sad to think of what they‘ve become. Giving it a so-so because it was quite dry, there was a lot to take in, and politics isn‘t really my thing BUT it was a fascinating read 👍

I read this after watching a video of the author on Facebook talk about the disappointment of publishing a debut just before lockdown. Noticed nobody had posted about it so I thought I‘d get the word out: it‘s good! Two people who seem like opposites - one from Liverpool UK, one from Dubai - bump into each other, clash and ... you know the drill. The audiobook was a fun listen 👍

A happy selection for #nonfiction2020 😂
So I decided to join my mum in doing Veganuary and I quickly realised that I can‘t go back after January. I need to do some research but started with this which is about how to have conversations with people about veganism. Interesting read but some of the language was a bit intense. Picked as “something about a social movement”

I don‘t expect to see any more Christmas lights so here are the ones I‘ve spotted in my local area. I was impressed that I could tick off this many! #wintergames #readnosedreindeer

Pigs in blankets sausage rolls inspired by the tagged book! Sausagemeat and stuffing wrapped in bacon with tomato purée wrapped in puff pastry finished with a grating of cheese sprinkled on top ?

Cosyreader @Crazeedi I used ready-made sausagemeat, stuffing and pastry so not much of a recipe! Roll out the pastry, mash the sausagemeat and stuffing together and make one long sausage. Place this on the pastry, wrap some slices of bacon around it (up to you how much), squeeze tomato purée down side and fold the pastry over. Brush with egg, sprinkle some cheese and bake for about 20 mins at 180 deg until golden. Sorry I don‘t do precision! 5y
Crazeedi @Cosyreader I dont do precision either! Thank you! I know how hard it is sometimes to give people recipes! I'm going to try this 5y
