Dark Matter meets Annihilation in this mind-bending and emotional speculative thriller set in a world where the exact moment of your death can be predicted-for a price. Our narrator is the most talented salesman at Dare to Know, a prestigious and enigmatic company in the death-prediction business. While he has mastered the art of death, the rest of his life is an abject failure. Divorced, estranged from his sons, and broke, he's driven to violate the cardinal rule of his business by forecasting his own death day. The problem: apparently he died 23 minutes ago. The only person who can confirm his prediction is Julia, the woman he loved and lost during his rise up the ranks of Dare to Know. As he travels across the country to see her, our narrator is forced to confront his past, the choices he's made, and the terrifying truth about the company he works for--and his role there. Highly ambitious and totally immersive, this adrenaline-fueled thriller explores the destructive power of knowledge and collapses the boundaries between reality, myth, and conspiracy as it races toward its stunning conclusion.

Mehso-so

The narrator works for Dare to Know, a company who pioneered a technology to predict anyone's exact time of death. Employees are forbidden to look up their own death date. When he does though, it says he died 20 minutes ago. I enjoyed it but maybe I didn't quite get the allegories and it got more and more surreal as it went on...

This sounded so intriguing: our MC works for a company that will sell you the exact date/time of your death w 100% accuracy. His own life has been going downhill for a while so after a car accident he calculates his own death and finds it was supposed to be 26 minutes ago!
The story reads like a fever dream. It's just plain weird. I will say the author ties together all the people and bizarre occurrences at the end but this wasn't my cup of tea.

Ruthiella Cool premise though! 2y
bookandbedandtea @Ruthiella It really is! I was excited to read it and was sorry to be disappointed. 2y

Pickpick

This is a trippy book. 🤔 It kind of opens your mind, turns it inside out, and hands it back to you. Elements of science and philosophy.

Yuki_Onna What a great review! 🙌 What a great sentence... 'It kind of opens your mind, turns it inside out, and hands it back to you.' Beautiful. 2y

I got this early release finished copy by chance. It has serious Blake Crouch vibes. The beginning was amazing & there is a lot of suspense. The backstory is told in flashbacks & memories of the main character. The ending was a bit off-the-wall. Bonus! It is set in Illinois, which is where I live. A lot of references to Bloomington, Illinois which is a few miles south of me. I always like books set where I can picture it intimately.⭐⭐⭐⭐

MaleficentBookDragon Well this sounds amazing! Stacked. 3y
FelinesAndFelonies @TheAromaofBooks this was square #13 so my #bookspin, I think. I always forget I'm supposed to tell you when I read a bookspin and not just merrily check it off. 🤦🏻‍♀️ 3y
