"Wonderful entertainment from first page to last."--Chicago Sunday Tribune A past dispute ... When the irascible Lord Darracott's eldest son dies unexpectedly, the noble family must accept their estranged Yorkshire cousin as heir apparent. They are convinced he will prove to be a sadly vulgar person, but nothing could have prepared the beleaguered family for the arrival of Major Hugo Darracott ... A present deception...His clever and beautiful cousin Anthea is sure there's more to the gentle giant than Hugo's innocent blue eyes and broad Yorkshire brogue would lead one to believe. But even she doesn't guess what he's capable of, until a family crisis arises and only Hugo can preserve the family's honor, leading everybody on a merry chase in the process ... Celebrate the 80th birthday of Regency Romance with great books from Sourcebooks Casablanca! What Readers Say: "What Heyer does best: comedy, engaging characters, and excellent writing." "A very enjoyable romp with a positively masterly denouement." "Georgette Heyer reaches the pinnacle of her skill with this book." "Among the best of Heyer's Regency novels ? very, very funny." "The pitch-perfect comedy, as the Ajax takes the reins of the family, is fantastic."

Love me some Georgette Heyer! This wasn‘t my favorite of hers but I did really enjoy the cousins getting to know one another and finding an equilibrium. Also, Hugo and Anthea‘s relationship was sweet, if not well developed.

As always, clever writing and interesting characters.

I used to have a terrible habit of losing library books, paying for them, and finding them months later. Ebooks saved me! #anunreturnedbook #riotgrams

I haven‘t read this yet — though I paid for it years ago — but the synopsis reminds me of Downton Abbey: The Early Years. #pride #150pnpcoverparty

candyturbo You and me both. E-books have saved me from library jail! 6y
LeahBergen This is on my shelf, too (and yes, it DOES sound Downton Abbey-ish now that you mention it! 😄). 6y

Heyer sighting at the Heathrow airport bookshop! I was thinking a lot about her when I was in Bath since she has a couple books set there. Maybe some plane reading? ☺️
