The Wild Silence
The Wild Silence: A Memoir | Raynor Winn
8 posts | 7 read | 3 to read
AN INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER The incredible follow-up to the international bestseller The Salt Path, a story of finding your way back home. Nature holds the answers for Raynor and her husband Moth. After walking 630 homeless miles along The Salt Path, living on the windswept and wild English coastline; the cliffs, the sky and the chalky earth now feel like their home. Moth has a terminal diagnosis, but together on the wild coastal path, with their feet firmly rooted outdoors, they discover that anything is possible. Now, life beyond The Salt Path awaits and they come back to four walls, but the sense of home is illusive and returning to normality is proving difficult - until an incredible gesture by someone who reads their story changes everything. A chance to breathe life back into a beautiful farmhouse nestled deep in the Cornish hills; rewilding the land and returning nature to its hedgerows becomes their saving grace and their new path to follow. The Wild Silence is a story of hope triumphing over despair, of lifelong love prevailing over everything. It is a luminous account of the human spirit's connection to nature, and how vital it is for us all.

Raynor and Moth are just incredible. This is a continuation of their story after The Salt Path (must be read first!) and hearing Raynor really developing her connection to nature was such a deep read. She makes me want to pull on my hiking boots and take on the world!

Loved it. Breathed it. As the pages turned and the story got more in depth, I felt like I was there with Moth and Raynor on their dramatic landscape of Icelandic adventure! Recommend for sure, and I will read again.

Both The Salt Path and the follow of this The Wild Silence. Wow, what a life, full of uncertainty, health issues, homelessness and from all of the heartache and uncertainty came their greatest adventures of 🌎 📚😍

Thank you so much for sending me this book Rachel @rockpools , the first one to get picked out of my birthday lucky dip jar!

It felt a lot sadder / more melancholy than The Salt Path but still beautifully written with its insights into nature and the true meaning of life.

Turned out to be a lovely day in the Lake District after a *very* wet night and morning!

rockpools Aww, sorry it was a tad melancholy. Your reading spot looks BEAUTIFUL though! 3y
squirrelbrain Oh no I didn‘t mean that in a bad way @rockpools but the hope that was in the first book was certainly missing for the first half of this one. Have you read it yet? 3y
rockpools @squirrelbrain Surprisingly (!!) I haven‘t - I‘d loved the first one, so will probably get to this in 2030! 3y

Look what the postman just brought! Rachel @rockpools

I adored The Salt Path so I have high hopes for this sequel. I love the little diary and it‘s even en français - parfait! I‘ve been thinking about trying a gratitude diary or similar and this would be ideal; plus it starts now so no excuses! ?

The card is just the cutest - thank you so much for the lovely gifts! ?

Cathythoughts Lovely 💫💫💫 3y
Tamra Beautiful colors! 3y
rockpools Better late than never 😁 And I *love* your idea for the diary! 3y

Hmmmm 🤔 I‘ve listened to 6 chapters thus far and it‘s not grabbing me. It feels like it lacks the focus and trajectory of The Salt Path, which I really enjoyed.

rockpools Oh how sad! Is the author reading it? 4y
Tamra @rockpools yes, and I think a professional narrator might have been a better choice. 4y
llwheeler What a beautiful cover though! 4y

Tamra @llwheeler eye catching for sure, just like the previous memoir! 4y
keithmalek I never heard of this or The Salt Path, but now that I've looked them both up, they sound like they're the exact same book. Your thoughts? 4y
Tamra @keithmalek my understanding is they both tell of an extended hiking trek, but I believe this one is intended to be a follow-up. 4y
Cathythoughts Very nice cover , like The Salt Path .. I havnt read either though ( I have Salt Path 4y
Tamra @Cathythoughts do try it! 😊 4y

The Wild Silence is the continuation of the story about Ray and Moth after were South West Coast walk. We learn how they are both doing, especially Moth as he has a terminal illness. They do a hike in Iceland and take on a project of rebuilding farm and it's land in the Cornish hills. We see the process of how she wrote the Salt Path. On the whole it was interesting, but I did prefer the first book. #nonfiction
