A wonderful birthday gift!

I enjoyed this book and wanted a copy for my library. I love dystopian books. Pandemics! Animal POV!

The washi tape is perfect and I‘ve already used it in my book journal ♥️ you can never have too many art supplies! I‘m so glad to add this book to my collection!

Bookwormjillk Happy birthday 🎂 8mo

Twainy @Texreader thank you 😁🤗 I just went and looked and added 4 Rollins to my TBR … he has a number of books out. 8mo
Texreader @Twainy Loads of them. Try to read them in order. I have them all except the last two. I‘ve quit with the hardbacks because he has so many books and I have limited shelf space. So I wait until his new ones are out in paperback. Some are better than others. Most of his recent ones are fantastic. 8mo
Twainy @Texreader I saw at least 47. Half are sigma force including this birthday book, I didn‘t notice that series before. I think I picked 4 stand alones. Excavation cuz D Preston blurbed it, Ice Hunt, Deep Fathom & Amazonia. 8mo

🎧 I‘ve loved outbreak books since I read The Hot Zone & who doesn‘t LOVE a book with chapters from a dog‘s POV?

The Congo.

Giant venomous ants. Animals behaving unpredictably. Hiding in a house of snakes. People falling prey to an illness that makes them susceptible to the animals who are behaving badly …

A great fun action adventure with plenty of awesome science & reality.

Loved it!!

A plague is sweeping through Africa from the Congo, making animals hostile and people susceptible to the animal attacks. Acknowledging COVID-19, his scientists race to find the cause and the cure against an evil billionaire who wants to be the savior at any cost, and Mother Nature, who is livid with humanity. This is one of Rollins‘ best—nonstop and well researched. Occasional characters Tucker and Kane are back; I love them as always. ⬇️

Texreader I wish they were in every book—I love this pair so much. Warning: I cried. I appreciated that the forest was like a character, too, and made me want to read all the books about how trees are more conscious than we realize proliferating right now. This was a terrific book to end the year with, as well as to end #readingafrica2022. A favorite author to seal an excellent reading year. Thank you to our hosts for an awesome challenge this year. 1y

I finished!! Before I review the book, I want to note how fascinating the story of the trees was in the book. The forest in the Congo is like another character and plays an integral part of the plot. I‘ve been reading about books that describe how smart trees are and I could tell Rollins picked up on this amazing research. Sure enough, at the end—where he always tells us what‘s true and what‘s not—is his recommendation for these books!

We are experiencing a gorgeous day (sunny and 75 degrees), so I‘m outside trying to finish this book, a Christmas present. And it feels so appropriate to read my last book by my favorite author for #readingafrica2022 on the last day of the year. It‘s so good. #DRC @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB

Who is your author that you want to read when you eat breakfast, every spare moment, and then tucked in bed? James Rollins is that author for me. Who is yours?

Vansa Tessa Bailey and Kresley Cole 😀I'm a romance novel addict! 1y
Texreader @Vansa That‘s awesome. I have loved so many books I read this year, but picking up my favorite author is just different 1y

The Sigma Force gang is trying to unravel the Prester John mystery (he‘s the descendant of the black magi, one of the three wise men who visited the baby Christ). His story is wrapped up in the deep Christianity of #Ethiopia. Sure enough, even though the current story is set in #DRC, the team uncover a map of 1710 (that I also found on google) showing that Ethiopia at one time encompassed the #DRC. Fascinating stuff. #readingafrica2022

This book has simply swept me up, as Rollins usually does. It is non-stop from the get-go. He wrote a lot of it during the lockdown and I appreciate how he has worked it into the book: “No one was going to risk another plague sweeping the world….75 percent of all emerging diseases in the past century—Ebola, HIV, COVID-19–all passed to the human population from animals…”

Can Sigma Force get in front of next contagion? 😬 #readingafrica2022 #drc

Rollins writes about historical mysteries that impact the present. I love that I started this book on Christmas Day as the historical mystery this go round seems to be about a descendant of one of the Three Wise Men. How perfect is that?

Mehso-so

I nabbed this one to read for #RepublicofCongo, but turns out it‘s set in #DRC! Oh well. It was entertaining enough that I kept listening, though truthfully I didn‘t pay that much attention to it. It‘s a wildly implausible, back-to-back action, cinematic, gory book. With one token female, natch. This one is like masculine fluff.

Texreader I‘m so sorry you didn‘t like this book, having just finished it myself. There are as many main characters who are women in the Sigma Force novels as men but due to their specialties they didn‘t play a big role in this book. They often are integral to the books: Lisa, Kat, Seichan, and Maria. Rollins‘ women characters are amazing. His books are intense & not just for men. I love them and the characters, but I understand if it‘s not your genre. 1y

Even a trip to Sam‘s Club for massive amounts of paper towels and oatmeal packets (😆) can net you some books off your #tbr. #bookhaul
