Historical fiction based on the real life of a Cold War spy turned political prisoner. The MC is a man of deep faith. This was excellent and enlightening on the time period. Recommend.

I finished 10 books in April, both #BookSpin (City of Girls), #DoubleSpin (Chouette), and 3 Bingos. City of Girls and Slow March were my favorites but all were enjoyable.
Three memoirs, two of which were connected. One essay collection. One fiction based on a true story. One kids book. Which means four fiction. I don‘t have a quick way to check how many mention pie. Oddly enough.
@Nutmegnc - what do you think of this layout? 🫤
Wow. This book is really great; exactly what I needed. Historical about a time period and place I knew little of and a powerful example of faith and resilience; love over evil. Based on a true story. Set in #Berlin #ColdWar 37th Book of the Year #Wian2022 #WiaN202SpeedCategory

#20in4Readathon @Andrew65
As of yesterday, Day 4, I hit 20+ hours by finishing 9 books plus a few chapters of Blue Skies and Slow March of Light
This was an informative read & based on Bob Inama‘s experiences during the Cold War in Germany. The Christian faith played a big role in his life & at times those passages grew tiresome. I enjoyed Luisa‘s story more (a fictional character). The chapters each started with an epigraph that provided context into the Cold War. It took me longer to read than I would have liked. I recommended if you want to learn about the Cold War or enjoy that era.
“In the summer of 1961, a wall of barbed wire goes up quickly in the dead of night, officially dividing Berlin.”

Bob has his path in life figured out. . . .then he was drafted and sent to Germany. Luisa graduated from nursing school in Germany, got a job immediately and then life intervened in her life too and changed her course. Their paths crossed, paralleled and crossed again. The ending was not what I may have guessed or hoped but it was the perfect ending. It is a fictional novel based on Bob Inama's real life experiences.
Publication Date is September 7.
