I wasn't going to post on this but seeing the Freedom Tower out the subway window just now made me change my mind. I'd just arrived at college for my freshman year when it happened, away from my city for the first time and surrounded by strangers. I'm from an FDNY/NYPD family so suffice to say it was a hard time. Can't believe it's been 15 years. #neverforget
I was in Spanish class. I couldn't get in touch with my family. My Dad, a physician, wasn't able to leave Manhattan until they realized the few survivors wouldn't make it to uptown hospitals. He picked me up that night & we drove home across the Tappan Zee bc the GWB was closed. Looking South, I saw two thick lines of smoke. Witnessing and remembering as a New Yorker is hard to sufficiently describe. I love my city. I love my country. #neverforget
15 yrs have passed since I watched history unfold before my eyes in my high school American History class. In 2003 I visited NYC w/ my high school chorus & while there sung the National Anthem at the World Trade Center site. 10 yrs later I saw this beautiful memorial & the new World Trade Center. Last year I visited the Pentagon memorial & think about it often, since I live close by. 15 yrs has changed a lot of things, but we will never forget.
We did our Family Day yesterday since today is a day of reflection and thankfulness. In honour of today, we did a family trip to Patriotic places around Fort Bragg. This picture just speaks to me. #September11th #PatriotDay Thank you to everyone that risked his/her life to save another. Humanity will always triumph over cowardice. Love will always defeat hate.
