King of Infinite Space
King of Infinite Space | Lyndsay Faye

In this lush, magical, queer, and feminist take on Hamlet in modern-day New York City, a neuro-atypical philosopher, along with his best friend Horatio and artist ex-fianc Lia, are caught up in the otherworldly events surrounding the death of his father. Meet Ben Dane: brilliant, devastating, devoted, honest to a fault (truly, a fault). His Broadway theater baron father is dead--but by purpose or accident? The question rips him apart. Unable to face alone his mother's ghastly remarriage to his uncle, Ben turns to his dearest friend, Horatio Patel, whom he hasn't seen since their relationship changed forever from platonic to something...other. Loyal to a fault (truly, a fault), Horatio is on the first flight to NYC when he finds himself next to a sly tailor who portends inevitable disaster. And who seems ominously like an architect of mayhem himself. Meanwhile, Ben's ex-fianc Lia, sundered her from her loved ones thanks to her addiction recovery and torn from her art, has been drawn into the fold of three florists from New Orleans--seemingly ageless sisters who teach her the language of flowers, and whose magical bouquets hold both curses and cures. For a price. On one explosive night these kinetic forces will collide, and the only possible outcome is death. But in the masterful hands of Lyndsay Faye, the story we all know has abundant surprises in store. Impish, captivating, and achingly romantic, this is Hamlet as you've never seen it before.

Reading this one to meet a reading challenge, but it's out of my wheel house. Looking forward to trying something new, trying some Shakespeare!

The tagged book had a twist ending that really knocked my socks off🧦. But if I had been a good reader and read my Shakespeare I wouldn't have been so surprised, this is a retelling of Hamlet. I loved it.

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Sounds good!! 👏🏻📚 2y

#Netgalley (I actually read this in August and am just now posting my review😳)
First thing, I am trash about going back and reading classics. So while I have seen a few of Shakespeare‘s plays I have not read many of his books...I have read one, Romeo and Juliet…. in high school. Per the blurb this book is a retelling of Hamlet, a feminist, queer and magical retelling. Since I haven't read or seen either the play or adaptation,⬇️

Tera66 Since I haven't read or seen one , I will have to take their word for it. And if this is really good retelling, then I may really enjoy HamletWhile I have not seen or read the work this is based on, I have seen a ton of stuff on Alice and Wonderland and read some of the original work And that is exactly what this book made me think of. It‘s really difficult to give details on the plot of this book, ⬇️ 3y
Tera66 because it‘s a little all over the place like Alice in Wonderland is. People go places, feel things, a little betrayal, a little drama. Then the ending. I struggled to stay connected to parts while others had me hooked. Just like with Alice.
I also have a love of all things New Orleans, and in this book we have three sisters from there who own a floral shop and are helping one of the characters with her sober journey.⬇️

Tera66 Through the book you are given hints that they may be more than just 3 sweet southern ladies and I adored every scene they were in. I cannot say that for the main character Ben Dane, he was selfish, self obsessed and basically just got on my nerves. But I am ok with unlikable characters. THAT ENDING! I guess it‘s good I was not familiar with Hamlet, because it was a great ending. Lyndsay Faye got me, I was not ready. ⬇️

Tera66 Although I struggled to get through parts of this book, it was totally worth it in the end. It took me over a month to just sit with this book to be able to review it and I am going to give it a 4 star rating based on that amazing ending.

The King of Infinite Space is a modern, queer, and feminist take on Hamlet.
Ben Dane's father is dead - was it on accident or on purpose? His mother has remarried his uncle. Ben turns to his best friend Horatio for help. Meanwhile, Ben's ex-fiance Lia is trying to recover from her drug addiction with the help of three florists for a price.
This was a great take on a classic play.
Thanks Penguin Group Putnam through NetGalley.

I loved this. It's a modern retelling of Hamlet. And she borrows some of the most fun characters from his other plays. Like the original, this is an absolute mindf*ck. I highly recommend this one. This author keeps getting better.
