pickI have been disappointed by so many poetry collections recently, but this one resonated with me deeply. It has been hard to get it out of my head. It is beautifully written and real and evocative. One of my recent favorites.
It is not a secret
that other women terrify me.
We are always competing in a contest
I don't understand.
I don't know how to beautiful.
I don't know how to gentle.
There is a right way to be this gender.
It has been taught to me
since birth.
I have failed every class.

I picked up this slim volume of poetry at Powell's this summer and finally got around to reading it this weekend. It provided a nice break in between my other #readathon selections.
pickI really enjoyed this little book of poetry. The poems aren't easy or pretty but that's what makes them so beautiful.
"Change came to me so ugly then." Rereading some #clementinevonradics that I didn't get to during the #readathon. This woman speaks to my soul. ??❤
pickThis book was lent to me by a student in grade 12 who had requested - and received - books of poetry for Christmas. (Teacher swoon!) So right away, I have to love this book. Had I been, say, my student's age or even in my early 20s, I would really love it. As it was, I thought most of it was lovely but it didn't just connect with me, and I think poetry needs to. That being said, I loved sections, like the end of this poem so much. Totally moved.
