The Clanlands Almanac
The Clanlands Almanac: Seasonal Stories from Scotland | Sam Heughan, Graham McTavish
11 posts | 7 read | 4 to read
A seasonal meander through the wilds of Scotland.'If Clanlands was a gentle road trip through Scotland, this almanac is a top down, pedal to the metal up and down odyssey through the many byways of a Scottish year. An invitation to anyone who picks up the book to join us on a crazy camper van exploration over 12 glorious, whisky fuelled months. Mountains, battles, famous (and infamous) Scots, the alarming competitiveness of Men in Kilts, clans, feuds, flora, fauna, with a healthy sprinkling of embarrassing personal reminiscences thrown in. Much is explored, all is shared. It is a camper van cornucopia of all things Alba'.From First Footing to Samhain, Fringe Festival follies to whisky lore, Sam & Graham guide readers through a year of Scottish legends, traditions, historical and contemporary events, sharing personal stories and tips as only these two chalk-and-cheese friends can.As entertaining as it is practical, The Clanlands Almanac is a light-hearted education in Scottish history and culture, told through the eyes of two passionate Scotsmen. The perfect escapist guide, The Clanlands Almanac is intended as a starting point for your own Scottish discoveries.

🎧 These two are so charming & funny! More great info delivered in a fun way as we travel through Scotland. More please!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

GingerAntics They are the best, aren‘t they? They‘re going to Australia next I believe. I‘m really hoping a lovely book comes out of that as well! 10mo
Twainy @GingerAntics I‘d like an audio of the 2 of them in Australia … talking with someone … a collection of interesting accents for a few minutes. ♥️ 10mo

These two are complete lunatics, but you can‘t help loving them! I found myself laughing out loud regularly. There is no better way to travel through the year than with “The Great Ginger One” and “Lady McTavish.” Just make sure to bring snacks.

I‘ve been reading this each month this year & think it works best that way. Like Clanlands before it, it‘s a lot of Heughan & McTavish telling stories & annoying each other. And plugging their projects. Some interesting history about Scotland.
It‘s the worst editing/proofreading job on a book I‘ve ever seen though. It‘s like they published it without proofreading at all. Drove me a little crazy at times; be warned.

I love the banter that's displayed in these books by Heughan and McTavish. They're interesting characters telling interesting historical stories. Scotland is a country full of history so it lends well to their adventures. (Even if the editing leaves something to be desired in this particular book.) #06-2022

Originally listened when it was first released. Loved it! Divided into a Chapter for each Month. I'll be rereading along all year long. And drinking whisky.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 📖🥃

GingerAntics Oh you‘ve had the Sassenach whisky!!! I‘m still waiting to try it. I need to start this book, too. 2y
Jess_Read_This I love everything about this post. I‘ve been wanting to try the Sassenach whisky! 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @Jess_Read_This @GingerAntics I'm enjoying having whisky to drink with the book and I like it but honestly it's overpriced. Which some of that is because it's smaller batches and shipping costs. But it Blended and costs more the Single Malt. I don't see myself going through the hassle of special ordering again. If it becomes more readily available I would buy again. 2y
GingerAntics @Crinoline_Laphroaig that‘s why I‘ve been putting it off, honestly. It‘s expensive, it has to be shipped. If I could buy it at my local store, I‘d probably get it much sooner. 2y

Listened to Sam & Graham read Clanlands Almanac and it was delightful. My print copy arrived a few days ago. It will be fun to revisit month by month. Plus it will be nice reference if I'm ever able to travel to Scotland again.

GingerAntics That‘s how I‘ll be reading this in 2022. Month by month. I‘m really looking forward to it, because Clanlands and Men in Kilts were SO great!!! 2y
GingerAntics @Crinoline_Laphroaig have you heard about season 2 or Men in Kilts? They‘re going to New Zealand!!! 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @GingerAntics no I hadn't heard. What fun! 2y
GingerAntics @Crinoline_Laphroaig apparently they‘re following the trailing of Scottish immigrants to NZ… or they just wanted to go on an epic NZ adventure. Either way. 🤷🏼‍♀️ 2y

GingerAntics Mine came on Tuesday, too!!! I have the audiobook and the hardcover. I‘m thinking I‘m going to read it month by month in 2022. I do love their banter, though. The few bits I have read so far had me cracking up already. 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig I'm still waiting on my Hardcopy. Listened to whole book. But yeah want to go back and rer month by month. 2y
