Saint Death's Daughter | C. S. E. Cooney
4 posts | 2 read | 4 to read
Fun, froofy and glorious: a coming-of-age story in a new trilogy from World Fantasy Award-winning author C.S.E Cooney Life gets complicated when Death gets involved. To be born into a family of royal assassins pretty much guarantees that your life is going to be... rather unusual. Especially if, like Miscellaneous "Lanie" Stones, you also have a vicious allergy to all forms of violence and bloodshed, and an uncanny affinity for bringing the dead back to life. To make matters worse, family debt looms a debt that will have to be paid sooner rather than later if Lanie and her sister are to retain ownership of the ancestral seat, Stones Manor. Lanie finds herself courted and threatened by powerful parties who would love to use her worryingly intimate relationship with the goddess of death for their own nefarious ends. But the goddess has other plans...

Was lucky enough to hit TWO bookstores with the best of friends, and came away with a lil haul. A couple I‘ve been wanting to read, and a couple impulse buys that looked really good. A good bookish Sunday!

Oh, how I absolutely loved this book! Cooney's writing is utter perfection and the main character in this one, was a definite favorite. Listened to the audiobook

Mehso-so

The world-building is first class, there's lots of LGBTQA+ & minority representation. It should really have been a 4🌟 book, but at times the pace was glacial. There's so much detail (there are footnotes!) that it slows down the pace too much. 3⭐

My thanks to NetGalley & publishers, Rebellion/Solaris, for the opportunity to read an ARC. I am voluntarily giving an honest review.

TW: death, blood, suicide attempt, kidnapping, death, animal death.
