What Happened to the Bennetts
What Happened to the Bennetts | Lisa Scottoline
22 posts | 31 read | 19 to read
From #1 bestselling author Lisa Scottoline comes a pulse-pounding new novel. Your family has been attacked, never again to be the same. Now you have to choose between lawand justice. Jason Bennett is a suburban dad who owns a court-reporting business, but one night, his life takes a horrific turn. He is driving his family home after his daughters lacrosse game when a pickup truck begins tailgating them, on a dark stretch of road. Suddenly two men jump from the pickup and pull guns on Jason, demanding the car. A horrific flash of violence changes his life forever. Later that awful night, Jason and his family receive a visit from the FBI. The agents tell them that the carjackers were members of a dangerous drug-trafficking organization - and now Jason and his family are in their crosshairs. The agents advise the Bennetts to enter the witness protection program right away, and they have no choice but to agree. But WITSEC was designed to protect criminal informants, not law-abiding families. Taken from all they know, trapped in an unfamiliar life, the Bennetts begin to fall apart at the seams. Then Jason learns a shocking truth and realizes that he has to take matters into his own hands.

This book was amazing. I connected with the characters and really wanted to see justice for the family. Kept me reading until I was finished. I‘ll be reading more from this author.

Definitely a #beachread
It‘s an easy read with an unlikely scenario, yet I was totally engaged. An unexpected act of violence shatters a family landing them in the witness protection program where starting over isn‘t an easy process.

TrishB I‘ve never read this author but she pops up a lot. Probably need to try! 2y
Cinfhen It was #GoodNotGreat @TrishB but this author is pretty prolific - 2y

I enjoyed this, though it could‘ve been at least 75 pages shorter. There was a lot of repetition and it dragged in places. But overall a good thriller as a family goes through a tragedy and gets caught up in a mafia-type conspiracy.

The story was sad, grief and loss mixed into a thriller. Started to drag towards the end but i enjoyed this read.

I enjoyed the beginning of this book, but didn‘t necessarily like the rest. I‘ve never liked action packed fiction. Car chases and gun fights have never interested me. This does not at all take away from the author, who I feel is very good. I feel that many have liked and will like story. It‘s just not my style.

One of my favorite authors and a favorite read this year. Great as an audiobook, too.

This book starts out with a bang and set me up to expecting much more than it delivered. I loved the first part of the book when the Bennett family is dealing with their tragic losses…together. But the second part of the book was disappointing. When Jason decides to “take matters into his own hands,” I felt the story lost its family drama appeal. But it did have a lot of action.

What happened to the Bennetts is about a family who run in to some bad guys and end up having to go into protection witness program without anyone knowing what happened to them. As I read this book I really wondered where this book was headed since it seemed that it was a little repetitive in the beginning. I felt like the 2nd half of the book was a little too unrealistic to me and I just didn‘t enjoy it as much.

Follow the main character as he tries to solve a crime. Only the main character is a suburban dad. Good book- not predictable.

This is one of my favorite books I‘ve read so far this year! I loved it and it was a thrill ride the whole time! There were twists and turns like crazy! I‘ve only read a few of her books but I plan on reading the others ASAP!

Just what did happen to the Bennetts - plenty.

I do have to say some of the situations were a bit unrealistic, but Ms. Scottoline always comes through with a good story. 4/5

Have YOU read it yet? What did you think?

Until nearly the halfway mark this is an incredibly sad family tragedy following a seemingly random carjacking. Then the twists to the story start coming which were so fun to read that I nearly forgot my first emotions. With all the twists, I think it helped that the story was told from a single perspective

Cinfhen Great photo and intriguing review-!! I‘m super curious 😊 3y
Cathythoughts Great pic ( I love your tiny people) great review. Stacked 3y
marleed @Cinfhen @Cathythoughts Haha - thanks! Since the tragedy happens very early in the book I decided my tiny people staging wasn‘t really a spoiler! 3y

marleed @bthegood Thank you, I have a 25 yr old dollhouse/treehouse in my basement that my late husband built for our daughter (who turned 30 this week!). I walked past it and remembered the little people inside - and thought oh hey they could be the Bennet‘s! 3y

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE BENNETTS is a little slow with the buildup, but the story line gets interesting once secrets and hidden things become revealed.

This book was broken into 2 parts. The 2nd part lost some steam for me but overall still an enjoyable read. This is an example of the book where you‘re put into action 1st & then learn about the characters later. I think that was part of the disconnect for me. Jason being on his own dragged at parts. It had a decent ending. Would make a good miniseries or movie. I did like the book despite what I mentioned earlier.

Bestselling author 𝐋𝐢𝐬𝐚 𝐒𝐜𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 loves exploring family, love, & justice, & does so in 𝗪𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐬. Itexplodes into reader's hearts from the 1st page. It's a tense, tautly-constructed thriller that is also a meditation on marriage, parenting, grief, betrayal, forgiveness, & starting over. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
