Doing a re-read of the original Dollanganger series, and following up with the newer volumes over time. There's a lot that I don't remember from my first readings. And a lot that is unforgettable. It's a crazy series. #13 & #14-2024

Book 3 of the Dollanganger series. This is told by Cathy‘s two son‘s Jory and Bart. I really enjoyed this book but have to admit Bart pissed me off. Never wanted to punch a character so much as I did with him

I saw a quote this week where VC Andrews had said if a book didn't hold her interest she was quick to DNF it and how she made sure her books held the readers attention and I have to say she does achieve this. I'd describe her writing style as frantic, you are literally in a whirlwind of family drama for 400 pages and you can't look away.

Bart, Bart, Bart...not only is he bratty as a child in the third book, he is also bratty as an adult in book four. Besides that, I think I liked the third book more than the fourth one. It was a great sequence into the series and I also liked that it was told through both Bart and Jory's viewpoints. The fact that the fourth book ends in Cathy's decision to just die in the attic really disappointed me. It made her look really weak as a character.
