June reads! GREAT month. Everything was good, not a single book was under three stars. Sisters of the Revolution, One More Thing, I Am Not Your Final Girl, The Lunar Chronicles, Not That Bad, and Social Creature were all amazing.

This effing collection. I know I have been posty about it but IT'S SO GOOD. I haven't read another anthology yet that was so wildly creative with so many unique voices and stories.
Being a speculative anthology with all stories by women, there are a few (but by no means all) with a focus on motherhood. I just finished one by Hiromi Goto that centered around breastfeeding and MAN SHE HIT IT ON THE HEAD. For someone like me at least that only breastfed my second child and loathed it 😂. The MC there took a rather different route though then just switching to formula at ten weeks though.
Mannnnn just finished the Octavia Butler story. She continually blows my mind, the only reason I haven't devoured everything she's written already is a sort of delayed gratification instinct.
After a couple sections of The Odyssey, I'm back on this to end my night. I just finished The Grammarian's Five Daughters, an original fairy tale that might be my favorite of the collection so far. I paused to add a bunch of Eleanor Arnason books to my reading list!
Can't wait to find the time to read this one 😍
Short stories by women featuring women and revolution in a variety of ways. Favorites included Tiptree (always), Cat Valente, and a wacky bio-engineering story by Eileen Gunn. I interviewed Ann VanderMeer back on episode 036 of the Reading Envy podcast, and we talked about this anthology a bit. http://readingenvy.blogspot.com/2015/08/reading-envy-036-reader-sense-of-ann.htm...
"All I did was love them too much." -The Mothers of Shark Island by Kit Reed
I am reading 1-2 stories of this when I take breaks between other things. I was pleasantly surprised to encounter Leonora Carrington!
I read lots of anthologies on my Kobo app, & this one is, as one might anticipate, full of heroines! #kickassheroines
Book fort at the pitchfork music festival in Chicago.
