Up All Night with a Good Duke
Up All Night with a Good Duke: Volume 1 of The Byronic Book Club Series | Amy Rose Bennett
4 posts | 2 read | 4 to read
"I can think of the perfect way to keep you occupied and your mind diverted," she murmured. "Come to my room. If you're not too tired..."
Lust flashed in his gaze and then he caught her face between his hands and kissed her. "For you, my beautiful Artemis, I'd stay up all night."
Artemis Jones--"respectable" finishing-school teacher by day and Gothic romance writer by night--has never lost sight of her real dream: to open her own academic ladies' college. When Artemis is unexpectedly called upon by a dear friend, a fellow Byronic Book Club member, to navigate her first London Season, she comes at once. Who knows, perhaps she can court the interest of a wealthy patron for her school. As long as she can avoid her high-handed aunt's schemes to marry her off.
Dominic Winters, the widowed Duke of Dartmoor, needs a wife--someone who will provide him with an heir and help him to manage his spitfire adolescent daughter. The problem is, Society has dubbed him "The Dastardly Duke." Rumors are rife that he murdered his mad wife so his choices for a suitable bride are limited. But then he meets the ravishing and passionate Artemis Jones who might just be everything he needs.

4⭐This is a pretty typical romance novel. I did listen to this as an audiobook and will say that I did not care for the reader. They grew on me, but if it wasn‘t for the topic of book banning in the very beginning I might not have finished this book. In it, we have Artemis Jones who is a school teacher. She‘s also a spinster and firmly on the shelf at 29. She doesn‘t want to get married. She instead wants to start a college and educate young women

LibrarianRyan She‘s also an author of gothic romance novels. She quite literally run into Dominic Winters, the Duke of Dartmore in the rain and they share a moment. The story progresses from there. Much of the story is predictable. Not 100% predictable but still predictable. And while overall, the story was exactly what one wants when they pick up a book like this there were some annoyances that give romance novels a bad name. First off, the euphemisms. 1w
LibrarianRyan . I never again want to hear about a love truncheon. The author spends so much time on cliché language and euphemisms that this book is too long. This audiobook was 12 hours long and could have easily been nine or 10. A lot of that time was taken up with these clichés and euphemisms that didn‘t need to be there. The author could also do with a little less description. One or two ways to describe things are fine. We don‘t need a giant list. This is 1w
LibrarianRyan the first book in a series, and it feels like a first book. Overall, the book was decent and good, but the author needs a bit more help. I do want to read, whichever book is next in the series, but I am happy to be taking a break. 1w

July was a busy month for me between work chaos and baby boy beginning the 4 month sleep regression, so it wasn't a great reading month for me. I wish I could say I think August will be better, but I expect it will be similar. I should finish my double bookspin today, so at least I'm not too far behind on that.

4/5

Artemis Jones has the perfect plan to foil her aunt's plans to find her a husband. She'll stage a ruining and once her aunt is thoroughly done with her, Artemis will be free to enjoy spinsterhood and find a patroness for the women's college she plans to open, but things go awry when the Duke of Dartmore proposes and Artemis is drawn into a larger and larger lies to everyone around her.
