Gris Grimly's Tales from the Brothers Grimm
Gris Grimly's Tales from the Brothers Grimm | Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, Margaret Hunt
7 posts | 3 read | 5 to read
The Brothers Grimms fairy tales are brought to life for a new generation of readers in their original, uncut form by the modern master of gothic horror, Gris Grimly. Grimm. The name alone is enough to call to mind any number of the timeless fairy tales collected by brothers Jacob and Wilhelm in the early nineteenth century. These folktales have been told and retold in many forms for over two centuries, and while the particular mix of fantasy, adventure, and wonder that defined their seven-volume collection has endured, the terror, violence, and darkness of the original stories has often been lost in translation. Enter Gris Grimly, who has faithfully reproduced the original text of a selection of tales and adorned them with his own inimitable artwork. The result is a Grimm collection unlike any other, set in a world that is whimsically sinister, darkly vivid, and completely unforgettable.

Pickpick

Grid Grimly‘s art never disappoints and his illustrations in this edition of Grimm fairytales are excellent. Seeing how he depicted each story, the best and worst characters, and everything in between was really fun. Atmospheric, creepy, delightful…I could go on…Needless to say, I‘ll be hunting down his other illustrated books as well.

So, who better to add wonderful art to these original tales than Gris Grimly?

Do you know which tale this illustration belongs to?

AWahle I'm going to guess Cinderella. Didn't birds peck out the step-sisters' eyes? 8y

Lookie 👀

So pretty. No filter on photo - art is amazing & wonderfully creepy. Mostly black and white spot illustrations placed throughout the tales but also has several full page slightly colored images.

Perfect time of year to add to one's Grimm collection. Never too many editions of Grimm in the house, right?

p.s. These are the original texts - with the Grimm endings. No disney-fied happy endings here!

[DELETED] 1409720085 I love Gris Grimly soooo much! 8y
