And post two from today's big charity book sale purchases. Any favourites? I'm excited to try Anita Brookner.
A gem. Tells the story of a family and what becomes of the mother & 4 children, using family photographs as a jumping-off point. Brookner is spot-on, perceptive, endlessly quotable. Laser-sharp re mothers spoiling children. Are their lives pre-destined (doomed)? Alfred is Galsworthy's Man of Property, Betty dramatic, Mimi dutiful, Frederick "so charming and so attractive that women forgive him his little treacheries." Impeccable writing.
"It is as if she has given birth to the entire brood, but having done so, thinks little of them. This I know to be the case."
I loved Hotel du Lac so wanted to read more Anita Brookner. So far, so wonderful! #bookisholympics #book2

Park visit with book + children ... Zero reading done, despite this idyllic picture taken when my daughter snuck off with my phone!
