For two women generations apart, going home will change their lives in this funny, poignant, and life-affirming novel about family, secrets, and broken hearts by the author of For the Love of Friends. Four years into her marriage, Jenna is blindsided when her husband asks for a divorce. With time on her hands and her life in flux, she agrees to accompany her eccentric grandmother Evelyn on a road trip to the seaside Massachusetts town where much of their family history was shaped. When they hit the road, Evelyn spins the tale of the star-crossed teenage romance that captured her heart more than seventy years ago and changed the course of her life. She insists the return to her hometown isn't about that at all--no matter how much she talks about Tony, her unforgettable and forbidden first love. Upon arrival, Jenna meets Tony's attentive great-nephew Joe. The new friendship and fresh ocean air give her the confidence and distance she needs to begin putting the pain of a broken marriage behind her. As the secrets and truths of Evelyn's past unfold, Jenna discovers a new side of her grandmother, and of herself, that she never knew existed--and learns that the possibilities for healing can come at the most unexpected times in a woman's life.

I loved this book, both the story of Evelyn and that of her granddaughter, Jenna. Evelyn is a force to reckon with and it‘s a story of her life she is sharing with her granddaughter as they travel to her hometown and visit. The granddaughter is coming out of depression from divorce filed by her husband and is able to find some answers from her grandmother‘s wisdom and rekindle her heart.

When Jenna's grandmother is determined to drive back to the family home alone, Jenna surprisingly volunteers to take her. On the trip, Jenna learns more about her family and herself. This was wonderfully written and I loved it. The first book finished for the #SuperSeptember Readathon (it's been a busy week). @Andrew65

Oh I love Evelyn, she‘s the quirky crazy old lady I hope to be when I‘m old. I enjoyed hearing about 1950s Evelyn and present day Jenna. Their character development was fantastic. This was a great deep dive into a family, their history, and their story. Book #58 in 2022

I wasn't expecting to love this book so much, but here I am, adoring another perfect Evelyn! The narration was fantastic, the dual timelines felt natural, and it a delightful read with nothing explicit. It made me want to move to a cabin in Hereford, Massachusetts with them!

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks This looks cool!! Is it expensive? 2y
DisneyFan @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks It awesome! They have different tiers and this is the topmost tier . It is expensive but the quality is definitely there and the curation is excellent. Plus you don‘t see the authors note, coordinating postcard, Spotify playlist, recipes, and signed bookplate which I think are in all the tiers too. (edited) 2y

Fun summer read! Ok, I might just be a sucker for books that feature wise, irreverent older women characters. This Amazon First Read toggles between a thirty something who‘s lost confidence as she navigates a divorce and her fierce, funny grandmother who shares stories of her past as they take a road trip. Evelyn reminded me of my grandma Robbie who‘s also quite the character.

peanutnine I picked this as my first reads also! Haven't gotten to it yet but it sounds great! 2y
Karisa @peanutnine Hope you like it too! First read choices are always hit or miss for me😊 2y
